Well, it has been a while.
In light of it's supposed run up the strip at York this weekend, The Shark has started misfiring under hard pulls.
(Absolutely nothing to do with me cleaning the engine bay, honest.)
So, I'm ordering up new spark plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm in a bid to cure it.
Here's hoping, otherwise my excuse is all ready!

I don't believe you've got a misfire at all Mr Sideways, this is just premature excuse making

So, The Shark went to York, provided tuneage for the evening's shenanigans and the worst night's sleep I've had for a long time (this, coming from a chronic insomniac, with a teething baby) but that may have been because of my snory mate who tagged along.
Anyway, the night was a blast.
Had a really good laugh and got mightily pissed, so most of my pics look like this:
The next morning, I'm clearly in a fit state to race.
In the queue:
So, it didn't go bang and I didn't steer it into anything else.
I did still get a slight misfire at full boost on a couple of my slower runs, but...
With some weight reduction from the boot in the form of the spare, carpet and eventually a leaf, I managed to shave two tenths off of the car's PB previously set by Jamesy, 15.1 @ 96.56mph.
Pic of the ticket:
Very happy
Next, once I've changed the plugs etc that turned up two days AFTER york, I think I'll finally have to stump up and buy one of those handy wheels for adjusting the cam timing, so I can dial out the overlap from the N/A cams.

Tense but confident, a good look.

My first thought when I saw that pic was 'Darn! That car looks too big for you!'

Three months since York?!
Not much happened really in the world of The Black Shark.
Still not got around to fitting the plugs/leads etc.
It's been serving as the mrs' daily ferrying the bairn around 'til now, so couldn't really touch it.
I've now bought her a C70 though, so I can start swearing at this now when I get a chance.
Speaking of which, after smoking around in the much newer C70, it's made me realise just how shagged the suspension is on this now. Starting to price up suspension options, chief of which would be Eibachs and Billie B6s, but that's a dear old doo!
Also have a 3" throttle body and machined manifold knocking around the shed of maximum density to go on at some point. Ooh, poly top mount too.
Still trying to bring myself to pay IPD's rediculous shipping costs for a cam timing wheel.
Well more than the price of the tool on top is a bit bonkers to my tight, northern mind.
Oh, the missus has kurbed two of my fake Pegs, one pretty badly, so they'll need refurbing at some point, maybe get them all done just a shade or two darker.
Would really like a genuine set, but the chances of finding a set for reasonable money grows slimmer as time goes on.
Not much to take a picture of and I can't be arsed digging out the parts to take pics of them, so here's one from this morning with the waterlogged 460:
That's about it really.
Next update, god knows when... Hopefully won't have to dig it out of the archive next time!
silly question really but what do you need the cam timing wheel for...?? May be some one could lend one to save on shipping costs as a thought, not that I have one. That said if you do get an order together I would like one too, if that is possible..

I have N/A cams Adrian, but at the moment they're set at 0° so still have the overlap required for a N/A engine.
They give better lift but overlap's not really a good thing for forced induction, so need the timing wheel to accurately dial out the overlap either way on each cam.
I don't know anyone that would have one to lend me
Wow... Loooooong time since the last update.
To be honest, there's not all that much been happening with The Shark.
It's been a bit surplus to requirements really since the missus started using her ragtop at Christmas and it was last ran about three months ago.
As it's York next week, I thought I'd better wake it from it's slumber, so went to collect it from my mum's.
Battery completely dead, so jump started it..
I've suspected the alternator for a while but it's definitely shagged now, as it wouldn't even generate enough juice to keep it running after disconnecting the jump leads.
Heater matrix definitely weeping and there's a tiny split in one of the oil cooler hoses near where it joins the rad.
Great.
Anyway, I had half a day spare, so thought I'd see about getting it ready for York and curing my slight misfire on boost.
Changed plugs for some Bosch ones because they were cheap and I'm tight, Bosch dizzy cap, some rotor arm or other and OE leads.
Also fitted the GWE RIP kit I've been falling over for months, along with a BSR shielded air filter jobbie.
Sadly no time to fit the 3" throttle body and matching machined manifold, also never did stump up for that cam timing wheel, but initial thoughts are that it feels a little more eager with the RIP kit, a little more willing to boost. Maybe that's in my head though.
No signs of misfiring either.
Guess I'll find out next week. 15.1 to beat.

Starting to think long and hard about converting The Shark to manual.
15 seconds is a fairly decent time for a slushbox, but I'm not sure how much more abuse it can take now.
The fact that my times at York started to tumble after my third run tell me it can't handle it any more.
Just starting to read up on conversions anyway.
Any thoughts?
