Standard headlight and a black projector with HID, although it doesn't look like it in the photo, the HID is much better, and lights the road up much better than the standard light.

I gotta say that I disagree with that comment. The mistake a lot of ppl make is fitting A) the wrong type of HID bulb and B) the wrong colour temp. Anything brighter than 5700k will look blue or have a blue tinge around the edge. On a 850 you need to use a HID bulb that has the black shield on the bulb glass. This must be intact to prevent unmetered light and hot spots. Also, keep close to 4300k for that OE look but with a hell of a lot more light output than a halogen bulb.

Slight improvement over my old 460 though it must be said
I had these black projectors on my laser blue R. I used 6000k hid bulbs that were without the black shield.
The light output was awesome compared to stock and the beam pattern was so crisp and sharp, you couldn't walk In front of the car else you'd cut your legs! If anyone wants to see what they looked light at night I can post some pictures.

Maybe I can try some new bulbs, but at the moment I can't believe anyone would spend 250 quid on these lights (and 200 quid for the rear clusters) to

    a. make the car look worse
    b. give out poor light
    c. devalue the car

I loves a bit of OE I does.

I think I would be fine about them if they were cheap, but surely not approx half the value of the car!!

I thought Frankie had them off you?

Agreed on the 460 though Matey, I usually put a lit cigarette out of the window to double the lighting output!

When I get to my pc later I'll post a photo of my P2R parked next to my girlfriends TT. Hers has stock projectors with 4300k and mine has stock bi-xenon reflectors with 5000k D2R bulbs. You can really see a difference in colour temp and the light output onto the road is vastly greater than the TT. 5000k are a whiter light with increased output than a 6000k because after 5700k you start to loose light output, even thou they appear brighter to the naked eye.
All these muppets with 8000k plus bulbs are doing themselves no favours. They look ridiculous on older cars, as said, and you'll see less on the road.

You should try some 3800k or 4300k on the 460 with new glass. Won't look stupid or out of place and will dramatically improve light output and night time visibility.

He didn't take them, Steve. You can have them if you want - we need to do a deal involving lights, ECUs & a birch steering wheel I'll even throw in a box of mugs

480 are the better 400-series for lighting...here's mine with 3 bulbs out on the 8 forward lights

Looking at the kit, it does high and low beam, not sure how though. Best wait for it to turn up, and see what's included.

Aren't H4 dual filament bulbs (hi and low) and H1's single so you need 2 sets? I know mine has H1's.

Regarding the Projector vs standard headlights on an x70 I have to say that standard bulbs in the projectors were really really poor!
Believe me, I know, I was running with them for a very long time.

...but, putting some £15 eBay 6000K transformed them. With the normal bulbs they were simply poo.

With the HIDs the beam pattern is so sharp and correct and light output is much higher. The projectors literally 'project' the light where it needs to be.

And I've never been flashed in the dark with the HIDs so I can't be doing any harm.

The biggest proof of this is by using the headlight wipers, now you can actually see their shadow as they pass the light, before you could not.

They are of course as said a matter of taste, some colours and cars they suite, others not so much.
For me a Saffy looks great with the C70 Crystals

Whatever your lights you may be finding poor illumination because of your lights being way too far out of alignment, it turned out at one point I was way off and adjust them to the safe point where I still wasn't getting flashed or lighting up car's interiors etc also made a big difference.
