I agree! - I would say it looks like its taken a fairly hefty rear end shunt and the crumple zones have absorbed the impact really well and therefore protected the passenger compartment/maintained its integrity.. to the extent that none of the rear glass has broken despite the force of the impact.

Please do tell what the actual speed of the impact was as it seems that you are a crash scene investigator

just went and investigated and your right it is plastic. its a blooody good imitation tho. i thought it was leather till felt the car seats the felt the 7 seat conversion.

I had no intention of driving backwards at that speed ! . The front off side brake hose split and dumped all the fluid in the road which as it goes is a very steep hill , i then applied the handbrake which still didnt slow the car down enough to avoid hitting the wall as the road was wet, it actually seemed to speed up rather than slow down !, so rather than mangle the front end through a wall and avert a very large bill i spun it round and hit it backwards.

I did what i thought was right, no-one was hurt, the only damage to the car was a cracked wheel, which the insurance company wrote it off for , but there you go, i broke the car and got more back than what i payed for it so i was happy in the end.

as for safety, i,m not going to judge,
my kids are always wanting to sit in mine but i,m not always sure i want to let them but thats me,
if we need to use them or we are only staying local then i havent got a problem with it,
i,m 100% sure it would be loads safer than most MPVs out there anyway,

I never liked the look of these 7 seat conversions. Not in an asthetic kind of way, in a saftey kind of way. Just look at it, if you get rear ended (no matter how "strong" a volvo is) the poor kids sat in the back are gonna get mangled. Just seems like common sense to me. I think if you need 7 seats to be carting kids around in, buy a proper people carrier. If I had kids, there's no way I would put them in those seats.

i kind of agree with you i never rated these cars as a 7 seater personally, took mine out n flogged em but one small point them poor sods on the m6 the other day had a people carrier did'nt they?
