    Newbie after advice please

Evening guys, first off im new to the forum and the Volvo scene and im horrendously jealous of some of the vehicles on here!
A long story short is ive bought myself my first Volvo, a 1988 245 GLT Estate, its the 2.3 B230E engine version..
I'm after a little advice from someone who can advise a novice on the best course of action to take with it, but im on a student budget!
    Cheers guys, be gentle..

Good choice! It depends what your plans with the car are?? Keep it standard and as a daily driver or modify it??

Youll find theyre very robust cars!! Rust can be a pain and estates can suffer from saggy arses due to carrying more weight in their lives!

This doesn't explain mrs Orcas saggy arse, she is not even a car never mind an Estate car.

You mean when she outed you for giving that nice girl a lift home?!

To the OP, your best bet would be to speak to Classicswede. He's pretty much the 240 guru.
He bobs in here from time to time, but more often found on VOC.
Great choice though, in GLT trim too... Mmm... Comfy studded leather armchairs!

Awesome, cheers for the welcoming guys! Ill try and get some pictures up tomorrow as the cars at a friends yard, awaiting some much needed TLC..
I wanna go down the power route of things, its a lot of car to shift at 133bhp, lets face it, shes probably lost a few ponies over 27years.. but available cash isnt massive at the moment as im going to uni, but im itching to get moving with her!
I guess i need guidance on the cheaper end of the mods, the little things that may 'all add up' as such? A friend told me i may be able to turbo it, without a new/turbo ECU by slapping on the relevant and turning up the fuel maybe? Sounded a bit far fetched, but im none-the-wiser with these motors..
    Sorry for the essay chaps..

You can add a but more tourque by swapping the cam tbh there not that bad once rolling.
For turbo charging you best and cheapest option is to buy a late 940 turbo and swap the engine and ecu over if you can do the work your self you should be able to do the conversation for under 1k.

Never happen Jamesy.. It took her four months to discover she didnt know how to open the petrol flap on the C70, her interest in cars could reasonably be described as vanishingly infininitessimal.
Besides which she has a good sense of humour, she married me after all!

If you are looking to upgrade then I would start with the suspension. A decent set of springs and dampers will transoform how the car drives.

Not much you can do with the engine without spending lots of money or going turbo. Fitting a decent exhaust makes a big differnce but not much else engine wise worth doing on a budget
