I've got a 1997 V70 2.5 TDi, currently wearing these:
Shod in 205/55/16
Looking at a set of these of a 2005 C70:

Will they clear my arches?

I think this is what I'm looking at?
I would say so yes, They wont protrude any further out than your current wheels, the extra width will make them closer to your suspension springs, but still should be enough gap without any problems. The extra inch wheel, but smaller tyre wall will probably make the car have a similar arch gap to what you currently have. I had 225/55/17 and now have 225/45/18 and the cap is more or less the exact same.
hope this helps.

I'm certain the Comet wheels will fit without issue.....also the Comets came in two widths: V70R Comets were 7.0J whilst the C70 Comets were 7.5J

Cheers guys, that's a big help!

Running 225/45/17 comets on our TDi.
All they do is rub on the front on full lock.
I use 225/45/17 on comets on my tdi too, I stopped the full lock rub with thicker steering stops.
854 T5 - The new project.
850 tdi - sorely missed.
I'm the same as Martin r smith, i just put C70 lock stops on the front lower arms no rubbing now. I did however need to put 5mm spacers on the rear as it started to eat through my arch linings.

Blackdog, yep standard ride height tyres are pretty new though continental sport contact 3's if that makes a difference. I know the guys who run AWD's have rubbing issues on the rear but I don't know if there any others like me running an FWD with the rears rubbing. It mostly rubbed on the inside of the tyre on the bolts that hold all the inner arch to the metal.

Sooty, you're running P2 wheels so they are 6mm more offset hence the need for spacers on your car as they are 6mm more set in to the arches
I had C70 Comets on my car too and no rubbing to report

The guy that was selling the Comets fecked about, and decided not to sell the wheels in the end, so I've had to go for a different set, which my mates and I just finished refurbing last night.
They are 7.5j 18" et:52.5, and I'm planning to get 225 18 40 tyres for them.
Am I correct in saying that I'm going to need at least 15mm spacers to get practical clearance?
Can someone recommend where to get a good set of spacers?
10mm spacers will get you to the standard fitment anything more will space them out more than standard so yes 15mm will be spot on.
Custom hubcentric spacers are available from http://www.superforma.co.uk/
I've used them myself for my PCD Adaptors, perfect!

Cheers Davey.
There's a 10 day waiting period on Superforma, and it'll put 10 years on me if I have to wait that long lol.
After much, much searching, I ordered these instead: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1707674705...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
(Still won't be here until Monday though )
Is there such a thing as lengthened locking wheel nuts?
What wheels are you putting on?
And yeah, you will want extended wheel bolts really.
There are a few different sizes on eBay, maybe the ones with the 40mm thread?

The saga with getting my new wheels fitted continues. I'm encountering issues with every single thing I do
Most recent hiccup is that I've had to re-order spacers, as the first ones were supplied with post 2000 Volvo studs, now the new set I've order from Italy have been supplied with fecking Ford studs. Messaged seller, but still no reply (what's the bets this is going to be a handling to get sorted?)
After I get the wheels fitted, I'm gonna be looking a set of 40mm lowering springs for her.
I'm looking on eBay, and the main spring types are coming up as Kilen, Direnza and Eibach, with prices varying from about £100 for Kilens, up to about £250 for Eibachs.
What could I expect to find different between the different brands of springs?
