Anyone tried 225 45 16 on their standard T5 (Columba) wheels?

I was just thinking about reducing the wet weather wheelspin whilst improving tyre footprint by 20mm width, I know standard the tyres are 205 50 16.

Using willtheyfit.com (rather than my trusty calculator):

    Current / Future
    Diameter 611.4mm / 608.9mm
    Circumference 1920.8mm / 1912.9mm
    Poke 42.6mm / 42.6mm
    Inset 122.6mm / 122.6mm
    Speedo error 0% / 0.41%
    Reading at 30mph 30mph / 30.12mph
    Reading at 60mph 60mph / 60.25mph
    Ride height gain 0mm / -1.25mm
    Arch gap loss 0mm / -1.25m

As can be seen above, the tyre profile would effectively be the same, just not sure that it's advisable to put a tyre on the same rim with 20mm more width?

Quite a while before my tyres are up for replacement, but was just pondering this query and thought someone here will have tried it?

What width is the wheel, 7J?

They might look a bit weird on a narrow wheel.

Thanks fandango - Any rubbing or clearance issues? Did it make a noticeable improvement to wet weather grip or general handling?

PS - Did you get your forum name from a hamlet cigar advert in the 80's?

    Had to search for it:

dry handling is noticeably better than 205's, can't remember what the wet handling was like (she's been off the road 6years). I don't get rubbing, but have done alot of mods in the wheels/suspension/body area so can't say how they are on a standard car

Thanks for the comments - I think the Hamlet Fandango has even wider tyres than you!
