    Turbos and chipping

    Hi all,

My V70 AWD is running it's standard 13G turbo and I'm so bored with how slow it is! Probably because of it's stupid 4speed slushbox!!

But anyway I'm thinking of getting it chipped as it is but I intend to swap out the turbo for a 16G and fit a custom turbo-back exhaust but is it best to wait until I've done these changes before re-mapping it? Would I need it done again after changing over the major stuff?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob at all this lol

Plus could anyone recommend a good place to get it done? I hear a lot about HLM, can anyone recommend them? They're close to me which is ideal!

is it a 16t your thinking of? if so i think you would have to lower the compression of your engine...

Yh sorry, I mean 16t. I want to fit a new turbo if it's safe too without going into serious changes like strengthened conrods etc.

The LPT engines run a CR of 9.0:1 (T5 engines are 8.5:1, so not far off). I'm running a 16T on mine.

It is best to wait until you fit the turbo to have it mapped, and I would fit bigger injectors (I've got white 350cc injectors off an x70 T5)

The standard max boost is 6psi on the LPT which is maxed at 4800rpm and drops down to 2psi by 6000rpm, so not pushed by any means. A remap does wonders on the standard turbo.

Anyway, a good exhaust, 16T, injectors and a remap will possibly get you up to 280bhp

Cheers for that, what do you reckon the cost of souring the bits would be? How much could I get a full exhaust built for approximately including twins and a free flow cat?

Sorry for all the Qs, I'm new to this!

i had a v70 2.5t mate and that was remapped at hlm and that went from 193 to 240bhp but its the torque you need in that car because of the little turbo it will boost from around 1500rpm.i would have a remap 1st and do a couple of breathing mods and see how you go from there .i took a second off my quater mile time just with a remap mate from 16.2 to 15.2

I have answered most of this over on VOC before for you, yes you can run a 16T no problems, if your getting a turbo back exhaust also get the angled flange exhaust side of the turbo.

Yes fit white or blue injectors both flow approx the same @ 3 bar pressure at this stage you can wind the actuator up to 8.5psi and your fueling will be fine, you will notice quite a difference.

Remap go for ones that others have used and got good results, mine is going to be custome mapped in a few weeks time but im paying a lot of money for that as he takes 3 days to do it all properly and he is going to try several different options for best results.

Prices wise, Flying Moose was selling a set of white injectors for £50 (think I paid £30 for mine). A 16T can be anything from £50 upwards depending on condition. Haven't got a clue about exhausts as I make my own.

Oh yeah, I remember, that was like a year ago lol. Good memory!
Still no closer to getting the money together to achieve any of this though

I don't think 280 bhp (crank) is possible with this engine even with the 16t. Max boost is only 1.0~1.1 bars to ensure engine longetivity.

Its not worth the hassle i did start this sort of venture on my c70 lpt with a 16t,injector,but remap was jus too expensive and being an auto i sold it and got a manual 850 t5 saloon much better just need a 16t or 18t n everything else is done.had a remap from HLM great people speak to Hamish or check their site out.
