Hi all, Long time since I last posted and this will be my last except for the occasional dip every so often. Why? Well I'm p*ssed off with my Volvo. The gearbox gave up ( a 2001 car - yeah I've driven it hard but even so! ). Volvo wanted £3700 for a new one and Volvo UK not only didn't want to contribute but wouldn't return my calls. They also told me that I was not a "valued customer"...hey spending all that money at the dealer was worth it...NOT! Given that my car has also depreciated by about £7000 in 18 months, enough is enough! So company car is on order ( Audi A4 2.0T S line - 220 BHP) - yeah I know, real boring but it was the best combination for the price. After the response from Volvo, no way can I face ordering a car from them. Once fixed, I'll sell the V70 ( no doubt for a stupid price and lose even more) and I'll use the money from the sale of the Volvo to buy a toy. A Skyline is currently top of the list! So, I just wanted to thank everyone for the good times (Avon Park was fab!) and for all the posts and responses and banter. The community on here is the best one I've encountered so keep it up! Special thanks to Mrs Mopp and Lance who have been a great help on all things! And to Justin who keeps everyone in check. Thanks also to VT as they have been great - Adam, that fuel gauge on your car has to be wrong...42 MPG! Hopefully see you all soon! Guy

Shame !! Sorry to see you've had such a rough ride from Volvo. Keep dipping in mate!
Shame !! Sorry to see you've had such a rough ride from Volvo. Keep dipping in mate!
I'm actually quite upset about the whole thing. I really loved my car, its combination of performance and practicality I think is un-matched, unless you spend big money. So for it to fail so badly and get a response like that from Volvo, I just feel that I can't throw anymore money towards Volvo in any shape or form....few years from now, I'm sure I'll be back! My car has been off the road now for nearly 3 weeks...A bit of a prob when I work in Bristol, so just sick of it!! On that basis its difficult not to go the company car route.

Can I ask a couple of things? 1) was it auto, manual or step/tip/gear tronic box? 2) what was the mileage? 3) do you really have to leave the site just because your getting a non-volvo - think of your friends ;P

Hi V8, sorry to hear about your problems, My brother is in the same boat with BMW, he just bought a £12k bike from them and now it has a problem they don't want to know and that is BMW HQ as well, Somtimes it's better off to spend a little on a vehicle, all the best for the future mate, Gary.

Post 100005 by lance on 2006-04-18 17:48:45

I can answer some of these in V8s absence Geartronic 90k Hopefully V8 will pop in quite a bit , although work commitment have stopped him posting recently.

Oh no! :( Dont leave just cos you dont have an ovlov, we'll all still talk to you....occasionally!! Seriously, its bad news that you dont feel you have recieved a good response from Volvo, and I know in your shoes I would be doing exactly the same thing in terminating any dealings with them. Good luck with the skyline - pop back and let us know how its all going :) See you at Avon Park with your new toy when you get it ;) x

..and this is another reason I feel so attached to Volvo. This forum!! You are all great and I will miss you! I am fibbing slightly in that I haven't posted much also due to work commitments mainly ( as Lance mentioned ) although this latest episode has made me not want to THINK about cars!!! So not really leaving the site ( apparently the Skyline site is not as freindly ) so will try to stay in touch. Did I also mention my job is a bit iffy as well ? Fun and games the last few weeks but hey, my probs are nothing to other peoples, so I'm not going to grumble too much...its just hassle! Andrew - As Lance pointed out, mine is a geartronic and 91k miles. I know that's a fair old mileage and I have given it some stick, but I've also spent heavily on Volvo servicing etc. so I still feel a bit cheated. Volvo UK first said they would not contribute because I did not have a full service history with Volvo ( not true ). When they failed to call me back as promised, they then said it was because I had not bought from a dealer....they can't even get their criteria straight. I don't expect miracles from Volvo UK, just a bit of understanding and respect as a customer, not comments like " I don't feel this conversation is going anywhere" and "yes, someone will contact you by close of play today" which of course 2 weeks later they never did. So fed up about it, but still love my car..... I won't go into the hassle I've had trying to sort a refurb gearbox......I need my car to get to work in Bristol and London, so taxi's and Hire cars are getting expensive and a pain. You guys are all a credit to this, the best forum bar none! Thanks and hopefully will meet up again, when your Volvo's kick my Skyline ass!! Love the cars, hate the company.....still, they just lost £25k when I chose my company car!
Nightmare mate, guted for ye Keep in touch tho ;)
...having said all of that, I think you went through more hassle than me with you're accident! Hope you're still pleased with the replacement, she's looking good!!

Post 100113 by Mrsmopp on 2006-04-18 20:28:33

Daft question I know but I take it you have tried Salvo for a geartronic box? I EXPECT to see you at a meet soon - Volvo or no Volvo!! x

Post 100198 by After_Shock on 2006-04-18 22:54:54

Shame about the experiences with Volvo U.K but in there defence theres not much they can actually do with regards to helping you out, only people that could would be a dealer which arent technically part of Volvo as there all privately owned and as they couldnt claim it under a warranty they cant help you much either. Not seen a geartronic break yet on any car, seen a couple of manuals but not an auto so think you have been unlucky to say the least. Hope the audi is decent and keep on here especially when you have the skyline!

Leeter send to Customer services Director and MD, so we'll see...

Shame to hear about the crap service. I'm not a dealer fan at all, but then I've never been wealthy enough to buy a new car from a dealer anyway and definately wouldnt pay their servicing costs etc. No need to leave the site just because you dont have a volvo, I don't have one and never have had, the T4 is Jacqs and so is the 850 we use as a runaround, they all still talk to me, sometimes, despite the bumpy entrance on the old site a year or two ago lol. Hopefully still see you posting etc. Ross

Ordered one from Preston Volvo centre 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't turned up. Anyone dealt with them ? I'm getting a bit worried...

> ..by the way, I'm off to te ring again in July ( 21st...for 3 days ). Yeah, I would be too if someone in a Transit had beaten my T5 round there! :B_blite: Must do this sometime, friend of mine has been round there with his RS Cossy and his son's TVR (which didn't break down all the way there and back!). He says it's a fantastic experience, but you need a LOT of laps (and a few tyres!) to get the hang of it. :B_steerin

Also, you can learn a bit from GT4...
