Yep I'm really pleased with Upsolute chip the car has been transformed . Just loving the extra power and still amazed that I 've got such a quick car for so little dosh. On paper its a bit more economical but in reality I'm driving it at any excuse and too quickly so drinking petrol till the novelty wears off :sinner: had a few good encounters bmws and the like no contest anywhere as yet bring out ya porkers! anyone whos not sure about a ecu upgrades GET ONE GET ONE GET ONE GET ONE :thewave:

Hi All - Some advice please. Spoke to Volvo Tuning about having ECU Upgrade (Rica). Would boost to 300+ BHP. Are there any negatives, as £470 was not a lot of cash for a lot of extra power. Am really keen to do it, so appreciate comments
As they say in the Nike advert - just do it. I have had RICA since July - love every minute of it. I feel a little paranoid about whether the AT can handle the extra power - but I think that was just down to my power braking. :hidesbehi I will also say that your fuel economy will go down more whilst pounding it but be better over all. Plus it is the best way to get the extra power. Don't forget that the money is not just for the ECU upgrade - the VT crew will check your car and make sure everything is working as it should be - and advise you on the general condition. So it is a top notch service. They also like donuts.

I looked into all the upgrades available before choosing RICA. Best £ for HP and service and support is second to none. Once its done you will wonder how you ever got on without it! x

Some of you guys have really done some serious mods i'm impressed. I thought it was just Jap Petrol heads that spent serious wad. My C70 is standard and I think it will stay that way as I've spent far too much on my other toys and the dog kennel is far too cold this time of year + the dog says I'm going to have to marry her if I keep sharing her bed :eek: :dgrin: :dgrin: Done a lot to the Z (30K including purchase price 5 years ago) ,but nothing to my Gen 7 TRD celica which is a bit of a hoot even though its only 230 bhp but it weighs nothing.

Intersting reading about all these BHP claims, I had mine on the dyno last friday up at Thor Engineering, she topped out at 189 :eek: at the wheels, so I am not sure where all these 300+ figures come from... anyone out there got any info... I know I haven't done many mods, brakes, ecu upgrade, K&N, Stainless Cat Back, but still the pod, so where all theses horses hiding?? :sinner: Oh, the torque curve has increased a bundle with the upgrade from Standard, :thewave:

i ONLY WENT ON THE BACK OF A FRIEND FROM WORK, HE HAS A TWIN TURBO SUPRA, SPENT LOADS AND ENDED UP WITH 360 bhp, HE IS WELL PLEASED, (DAM CAPs lock) :sinner: Anyway, I had a power run, cost me £60 takes about half an hour, not that impressed, although the gear was ok, we have a rolling road nearby (5 miles) so might book a power run there main reason for going was to hope that they could av a look at the hesitation I have wiff me motor, boost, no boost, boost no boost, really drives me mad, it's ok if you punch it hard in sports mode, but it's wierd when driving "normal" runbit surprised that the horses were not higher, torque is, will boost to 14LBs occasionally, but not consistent. :wink:

My mods to date are as follows... Black mesh grille, with chrome and new offset T5 badge added. Removed h/lamp wipers and refinished under lamp strips. Relocated horns. Restyled air intake and ITG panel filter. Removal of all front bumper plastic grilles (may replace with same mesh as grille???). 17" Pegs with PzeroNero's (Peg's refurbed in Anthracite 932). Debadged rear panel, replaced T5 badge with newun tho[COLOR="Red"]*[/COLOR]! Also had the rear brakes replaced with std kit (ready for f/brake upgrade). I plan to carry out... Polybushing. 40mm drop and upgrade. 302 F/brake conversion (Tar-Ox and Ferodo DS2500) + Dot5.1 flush. And I will be in talks with Hamish regards a Stage2 v.soon, once I'm happy that the car is sorted and ready to go with the extra G's:mischievo I have also had the car in and out of the bodyshop (still more to sort out) as I am a bit of a fussy s@d n I wanna get it as straight as poss:cuckoo: It's safe to say it's gettin there peeps I'll be perfectly honest I want the most powerful T5 in the SW, too tall an order d'ya think folks??? Setup of car to date (1 May 2006): MBC is now fitted correctly (no over boost cut off now) MAF Gauze has been removed HKS Mushroom Filter nicked off a Skyline(cold air box to be installed) White Powder coated "chavy" T5 wheels. Blue powder coated inlet manifold. Blue Powder coated Sump. Blue power steering pump bracket. Battery relocated to the rear passenger footwell All unrequired interior removed..[SIZE="1"]2xseats/steering wheel/pedals and instruments are all that are left.[/SIZE] Windows replaced with Polycarbonate. Sealed [size="1"](very hot in summer I think)[/size] Dashboard chopped in half (then in half again) All heating removed Lockable bonnet pins fitted and bonnet hinges removed. Increase air flow to intercooler/Radiator by cutting a big hole in the front bumper. Rear spoiler removed To do : Adjustable Droplinks Adjustable Suspension Delrin Lower wishbone Bushes......then just maybe a new ECU...

Update! 19T ,Standard down pipe, Rica, ITG filter , volvo strutbrace, brembo discs, DS performance pads , 17" titans, Ti Boost 1 bar boost gauge that over reads by 0.2 -.2.5 and goes right round to the bottom that would be silly boost ( bearing in mind 3 o clock is 1 bar it goes right round to 6,o,clock) = lots of wheel spinning and torque steer 280 whp 430 nm @ the wheels! and 1.15 bar on the rollers!

My Mods - Black tints and I've got a VPCUK sticker on my tailgate window that I'm sure adds at least another 20 BHP! Numpty moment - while waiting for Tara to 'nip in Morrisons' the other day I was mooching about and caught sight of the sticker in my rear view mirror. I nearly jumped out of my seat as I thought I'd put it on back to front seeing as I could read it perfectly - Yeah you've guessed it, it was the right way round I hadn't taken the mirror into account. Well there were a few companies that said that they did a kit, but when i checked into it, they stated that it was a bolt on job, and that no welding was needed. With my car the door hinge was a bolt on, but the pillar side is welded. I could have a kit put on that will be welded, but the cost would be around £3500. There was also the 'lsd' kit, but with this company, they said that they dont do one for a c70, but a universal one might fit, that was around £1200, but not sure of works needed to make it fit. There is one major problem as well. This was done before the current wategate, manifold, exhaust system and with the fuellign leanign out and clutch slipping, as well as beign aborted at 5800rpm with the curve still climbing and the car mapped to 7500rpm (we never go past 7000 though) Current performance figures (Taken from speedo video, allowing for over read to best of fairness, ie 0-100 time was 0-110 on the speedo) - AGAIN on an old spec before the recent manifold, exhaust, clutch mods. 20-60 : 3.2 seconds 20-100 : 9.0 seconds 20-140 : 17.9 seconds 30-70 : 4.1 seconds 30-130 14.0 seconds 0-100 10.5 seconds Ross. its fitted at the bend on the downpipe mate, with the valve open it boosts up alot quicker & higher
I think with a bit of clever routing a nice side exit pipe from that could be awesome! The flames will be immense from that valve. Nice easy job to convert it to, little rotary solenoid on a cut down throttle body and bam. loudness and flames.

Apart from the RICA and Eibach/Koni FSD set up, I managed to slot in a few cosmentic mods when the good lady exchequer was not watching. Stealthed the rear by painting the T5 badge matt black and meshed the front bumper grilles using gutter mesh from Aldi and a hot glue gun. Dead easy - PM me if you want some how to pics. I am particularly pleased with the rear badge as you can't tell its a T5 until right up close in daylight, or when parked. Heh heh! Thinking about doing the main air intake for the intercooler which gets a lot of abuse from road debris. Thinking of either galvanised mesh as used in the building trade, or again the black plastic gutter mesh. Any thoughts? Any thoughts?[/quote] i used the stainless Folia-Tec mesh you get from most car accessory shops, i also binned the standard plastic blanks blocking the other 2 smaller vents in the front bumper. Only thing is because of the mesh you can't screw the torq screws back in to secure the skirt to the bumper itself (makes it alot easier to take off tho when working on the car lol)

Secondly, from the way you've worded your mods list it sounds like your not sure of some of your mods or their advantages. The reason you can't boost any higher than 12 psi is because your using a MBC. These do not connect in anyway to the vehicles electrics and therefore have no influence over any other the boost controls etc. So i expect your getting a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) light come on and the ECU then causes the car to hesitate and almost feel like it cuts out. This is normal and means you've reached the limits that your ECU will allow you to boost without causing damage. If you want to overcome this and gain big performance SAFELY then you have to ditch the MBC and have your car remapped. Thirdly...you shoulda fitted the exhaust before the MBC to notice a difference. You will get better throttle response, slightly more power and noticeably better sounding car. The next step for you should almost certainly be...Strut brace (makes a massive difference on FWD cars at reducing torque steer) and then exhaust. Hope that helps

on my boost gauge witch is in psi it says that my peek boost pressure is just about 18 psi, hammish said that it is 1 bar but to be honest i can only say what the guage is saying... i thought that 237 bhp at the wheels is pritty good as my car is not a T5.......

Whatever it says, 1 bar is always 14.7psi. Has been since the earth began m8 :) If yours says 18psi then i think that's about... 18 pounds per square inch = 1.24105631 bar.

To do: lift the suspension up a couple of inches stick chunky all terrain tyres on there bull bar on the front end remove muffler for full straight through system totally revamped audio system in the trunk
