I'm thinking ahead for my next motor. Would ideally like to stay with Volvo and liked the look of the post 2000 V70R. However, looking at the weight, its 132KG heavier than a standard T5 ( presumably due to different engine and AWD). Has anyone driven one, cos its heavier than my T5 and I have more power as I'm ricced. Which is the quicker ? If I got one ricced would 340 BHP counteract the weight to give any advantage ?? Anyone driven one ??? 0-60 figures vary from 7.7 to 5.7!!! I really don't know if they are any good. Also, what about the S60R ? Less keen on the S60 but would consider going for one if they are worth it. Anyone any other ideas for a fast saloon ( have 3 kids ) that can cruise on Motorways well and has an element of prestige. Only others I can think of are Audi RS6 and older AMG E55 ? Perhaps a Monaro ?? Worried about running costs with all of those... Answers on a postcard....

Having been a passenger in Hamish's P2 V70 I can say wholeheartedly that that thing does like STINK!!!! Buy a V70R and get it remapped you will NOT be disappointed!!! x

Theirs a slight price difference difference between a V70R and an RS6! If you want to spend that much buy the RS6 no question, if you can afford the car you can afford the running costs. Other than that get the new shape V70 R and fiddle about with it a bit.

I was offered a 1000 mile ex showroom / demo 54 reg S60R manual for £25000, i would expect to see a similar V70R to be £27000. So 03 models should be low 20's. Last time i looked an RS6 was £10000 over the equavalent R model. Although the residuals will be better on an Audi, and it is unquestionably a better car, but Volvo R models are very special in there own right. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of these under the right circumstances !

Would love the Audi , volvo, or Merc !Volvo will be cheapest to run if you forget depreciation Would go for the manual R over the tiptronic as you loose 2 seconds on the 0-60 and atleast 50 nm of torque! A standard T5 auto or tiptronic would be as quick if not quicker than the R based on manufactures figures

Cheers for the comments...I reckon I should be able to pick up a V70R for around £25k or an S60R for about £20 ish but RS6's are still around £35k so its really about bang for my buck....would like to stay with Volvo but was worried the latest V70R was not as good as the previous R's...and its seemed such a heavy weight ( although I know none of them are "slimcier girls" )... I didn't realise Hamish had a P2 V70R...I might have a natter to him... Anyway, this is 6 months/1 yr away, just like to plan ahead and have something to aim for... I also do need to think about auto vs. manual, cos I'm so used to my auto...
