I am wondering guys, on the s40 t5 and focus st what limits the engine being tuned to the potential of a t5?
you did some focus' to 260 ish which is the standard figure for the s60 .
they are the same block so what stops you going further? the turbo or fueling?
i am just curious.

they are the same block
im afraid they are not the same block, the s40t5/focus use the narrow version.

The limiting factor is the compression ratio as it's higher than the traditional T5. This engine is VERY prone to detonation and when you tune for 98 RON and put in 95 RON, practically ALL the power is gone. On the plus side, it give a superb flat torque curve from about 2000-5000 rpm.

Yeah in simple terms its a gay T5 block, also has a smaller turbo but not sure which one exactly?

That is an excellent way of describing it!!! From now on, we can all refer to it as the gay T5 engine lol.

Obviously no offence intended to anyone who may well be or who actually drives one of the 'softer' cars just an easy way of defining between a proper one and a not so good T5!

ok so now we have gay gold and a gay t5 engine. geesh...!

I have no doubt that in time the F*rd tuning companies will start playing with the internals of the engine to allow big bhp to be achieved but fortunately for the cost of doing that it will probably put alot of people off.

they also do a black one (yuk), saw it at haynes of maidstone last week.
Post 90283 by After_Shock on 2006-03-17 20:09:13
Black ST's just look like a normal Focus for some reason, the colour doesnt do them any favours at all, same as the new C70 really dont suit black.
Post 90348 by madness on 2006-03-17 23:18:09
well you wouldnt catch me buying anything with fo*d on it thats for sure.
that includes a new s40
i have found 9 fomoco logos on one so far. anybody beaten this? not including diesels cos the engine is cheating
exhaust, fuel tank, etc
Post 90349 by mikezero on 2006-03-17 23:19:13
the new focus rs, does seem quite common already, ive seen loads on the road and saw a lorry load of them heading north of glasgow.
Post 90361 by After_Shock on 2006-03-18 07:40:04
Madness so what it shares a fuel tank and exhaust, those bits dont make a car do they!
S40 is hardly a Focus underneath, the chassis is heavily modified from the Focus one, the suspension is also heavily modified from the Focus set up aswell. Considering the chassis and suspension are amongst the best in the market why is it a bad thing, just because they have F*rd stamped on them?
Providing people choose one with a proper engine in it then they will be fine.
Sounds like one of our valeters at work who hates life, been arguing for months with him about the new C70 as he saw the pics and said its just an S40 (which its not) therefore its a F*rd focus, so the defining moment in this month long argument was when the car was jacked up on the ramps, he then started running round like an idiot saying I told you so, so I said go on prove it, he says 'Its got F*rd stamped on the fuel tank' my response 'well f**k me that really affects the build quality and handling of the car doesnt it.
