As you will see from the updated sig photo and details, I no longer have a working Volvo on the road after 8 years! Due to my relationship exploding in a big way and my old dad having to be put in a care home due to Alzheimers I have had to take over his finances, sell his house for care costs etc so NO TIME left! I negelected 'prepping' my cars due to rows, fights and endless hassle with the ex - which has proved costly in many ways including the death of my beloved cars. I have been kept safe in a Volvo for many many years but have been reduced to buying a Smart car for £650 to get me to work. :( I must admit I miss the safety of my 'big bus' estate, when HGV's get so close all I can see in the rear mirror is 'NAM' (MAN backwards lol) very frightening also never realised how they get blown about as they weigh like 400Kg! Only bonus is it runs on fumes. I simply fill the tank up.....swill it around, tip it out and quickly put on the cap..........runs for WEEKS!!!! NO creature comforts whatsoever, no cruise, heater takes WEEKS to get hot (so have to drive in a PARKA and ski kit in this weather!) Slowly building up a pile of spares for the estate, lower wishbones etc BUT......my C70 is being 'held ransom' by the ex who is threatening to have it towed away and crushed as its in her garage!!! I dont expect to see it again as I cant find a transport company to move it an nowhere for it to go now. NICE how things go when they turn on you like a terrier isnt it:nutkick:

What does the C70 need for MOT, and where is it?

Hi guys sorry for delay replying chaps, I was away on a C&G course to do my 17th edition AGAIN as work LOST my cert and told me unless I had one I would lose my job!! THEY LOST IT!!! 500 smackers down the swanee :( nice company sadly my rag top is in Torquay Steve but 'peace talks' might have broken out at Easter!! But Im STILL getting the hateful comments.........why bother fixing THOSE old things....ect etc then I try to point out that T5's are now getting RARE as the new models have had their 'teeth pulled' and are slower! Its rare now to see more than 2 or 3 on Autotrader and maybe a few intergalactic mileage bangers on flaebay :( sadly few females understand about US and our cars!!! She needs a new steering rack (not the ex missus I might add) OR her old one needs the brackets welded back on as they failed. I coud have done this years ago but sadly I lost EVERYTHING from my workshop in a flood including welder benches etc :(( I bought a second hand one online and the guy GUARANTEED it was a MK1 rack, however when it arrived it was a P2 rack (but at least I have a spare for the estate). The other things were AS USUAL handbrake and a crack in the windscreen (which last year he overlooked) this year FAILED it on the same crack that is no bigger - I guess he must have had a fight with HIS missus the night before too lol. Thats it I think for the C70. Thanks for the support guys, I just cant work out WHY Volvo designed such an AWFUL handbrake system? The garage in Wokingham that used to do the MOT's before I changed to one in Torquay - even refused to do the handbrake!! His words were "(big intake of breath) ....oooooooh Im not touching those mate last time I tried to adjust a Volvo handbrake"..................... (then a long horror story followed) :( Whats wrong with the idea of CLAMPING the disc as most cars do now? The awful 'drum/discs' are a nightmare to balance and get right. One minute its driving down the road with low MPG, slow acceleration and an ominous burning smell - or the handbrake lever up under the armpit and STILL not on???? I have replaced EVERYTHING now on her except the cables so its a case I think of doing those hanging them up and running oil through OR new cables? How do you set yours Steve?? First I need her transported to W'ham so I can work on her. One chap very kindly offered to help from Wales but sadly I lost his details. I also cheekily stopped a guy getting petrol who had a beaver tail (well not ON HIM DRIVING one) and asked if he could help for a bung? So I have a number I COULD try?? I also managed to find a self drive beaver for £200 nicker, so a few options. Whats the law on Dollies on the M way anyone please??

My offer to help is still there, but if you are able to move the c70 with a beaver tail it would be easier and cheaper I'd guess. Handbrakes are a pain on these cars, but new cables will sort the issue, but you really would need to fit new disks and shoes to get a nicely operating setup, as if they have been sticking the drum part of the disk, will be ridged up and the shoes will not be sitting true, if my cars are anything to go by, but an overhaul with all new parts sorted olive and has been good for the last 5-6 years, just got to do Gul's now as that one is totally fubar'd, so cables, disks, pads, shoes and I will be over hauling a spare set of rear calipers to go on as well, that should sort her for a good few years to come. Hope you can get both of yours sorted Murray and back on the road, as these cars are much nicer to drive than modern euroboxes.

Hi Murray, I'm breaking a C70 at the moment, would you like the steering rack off it? I got the car from Bristol, and the guy I used only charged £128 to transport it back to Reading, I can PM you his number if you'd like, he's from somewhere down west. I've never had a problem adjusting my handbrake up TBH, just slacken off at the handbrake, adjust them up at the back so the drum just slides over them, then adjust up any slack at the front. As for why Volvo don't use a camping handbrake, it's probably because if you apply a clamping handbrake afetr a spirited run, the discs are warm, once they cool down, and the discs contract there isn't as much clamping force, so if the car isn't in gear, it rolls away.

Pooring oil/WD40 down the cable won't make much, if any difference. You'll only need to get two cables as the 3rd middle cable is so short, they never fail. Regards the law on dollies on the Mway, what sort of dollie do you mean? If it's the A-frame type that attaches to the front wishbones....to be legal you'd need a lighting board and long cable to attach to the front vehicle. Obviously the number plate aswell. So the vehicle that is to tow would need a 7-pin socket on the rear. Problem is, as yours does not have an MOT, you'd need all 4 wheels lifted off the ground. If you front lift, rear lift or flat tow it on an A-bar, you'll be breaking the law. So your only choice is flatbed truck or Beaver tail van.

Thanks peeps i meant the little dolly that you drive the front wheels up onto and tow it as the RAC/AA do. Think its a bit silly thta it has to be MOT’d as youre recovering a dead car £♂️

If it’s unroadworthy then ALL four wheels must be off the ground. Even if a car is roadworthy but declared SORN, it would have no valid Tax, therefore same rules apply. The rules are in place for many reasons, one of them being to prevent unscrupulous traders with no MOT/ Tax getting a free recovery from one end of the country to the other! Typical recovery mileage is £2.50 per mile, so I’ll let you do the maths.
