My HU-803 head unit has a knackered display screen only showing half the info and the rest is all yellow! Also the CD player jumps all the time so I have sourced a perfect second hand one. The trouble is the geezer says it needs ‘RECODING’ ?? Never heard of this before on a Volvo radio, so whats the score if I just swap them out? There is no CODE as such it comes on straight away after disconnecting the battery so what CODE does he mean please?

Most headunits have a 4 digit security code if the power is disconnected for a significant time. Not sure if Volvo HU units do. All you can do is plug it in and see. If it then says 'CODE' in the display when you switch it on, then it will need the code.

The hu803 has no security code as such but it is programmed to the car it is fitted in. It will need programming to the car by volvo or an Indy with vida software update capability.

Your current hu803 can be repaired. There are a couple of firms online that repair them.

It won't take long to swap the lamps so surely it won't lose its memory that quick right? Ryan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I know I posted this three years ago but I now have another V70 after spending 3 troubled years in a Jaguar! So Im BACK to reliability and a Turbo Brick! After removing the existing OEM Head unit and fitting an adaptor plate - Can I just go ahead and fit a 'state of the art' Pioneer GPS/ Bluetooth / USB/ DVD /reversing cam/ kitchen sink and mircowave unit without any problems yes? Sadly a 17 year old Volvo is a bit LACKING in ICE and navigation shall we say! I bought a YATOUR ipod adaptor a few years back that was fitted in my estate but if I am ripping out half the dashboard might as well fit a proper head unit yes? cheers

I'd imagine so, this is probably what I should have done on my XC90, but I went down the Grom route due to the MOST system that the audio runs though, which then needs programming by a Stealer to be able to work and in the years I've had her, I've yet to get it to get it done, bit of awaste for money really until I send it in to get the MOST security removed, Not sure if the V70's use the same system, might be worth checking just in case.
