I have been on the look out for a V70 for a while now and came across this on a dealers website So I got a flight upto Scotland to have a look. It is a fresh Japanese import with 65,000 K.M's on the clock. Like it or loathe it, I have become quite fond of the Flash Green Atacama colour combo. It sort of suits the car, quirky Swedes! So on my way back I had to collect a bumper from the west coast for my restorection S60 R via a trip on a ferry! Never been on a car ferry so it was bit of a novelty for me. Then it was back home, covered around 600 K.M's There are a couple of minor issues to sort, I will need to give it a once over & service prior to it's M.O.T. Hoping to have it on the road for early July (fingers crossed) More pics to follow St Etienne.

That place has always got a handful of imported S60Rs and V70Rs for sale. What's the general condition of their stock like out of interest? Any idea how long this one was with them?

Any idea how long this one was with them?[/QUOTE]i What I saw looked to be in good order, I was on a time deadline as I had to get back home & had to go over to the west coast to collect a bumper so I did not really scrutinise the other stock. They were very open & honest about the car & transparent throughout the sale, I can't really praise them enough. I would not having a problem buying from them again that's for certain. Everybody I spoke with were very friendly. When I arrived yesterday they just gave me the keys and said take as long as you want, no pressure or mither (I guess they knew I would be buying it as I'd made all the right noises & I'd also flown up from Manchester!) This is going to be there demo vehicle So yes I would say they are worth a visit. However they did say they had imported and sold around 80 of these so itis getting harder to find decent low mileage stock. I believe this to be true as I keep my eye on goo-net & Yahoo! Auctions and there are only a handful on both.

P.M's sent with dealers contact details as I'm not sure whether or I am allowed to post company details ? I can't say that I have seen that option in VIDA, I'm fairly certain that M.P.H will be a combination of having the correct D.I.M and also the correct software loaded. I have seen a part number for the U.K language on VIDA. I think that is all it is. I will price up a D.I.M tomorrow, I have also tried contacting XemodeX about a plug & play D.I.M. Im still waiting for a reply from volvodiagnostics, I will try and give them call tomorrow as I'm HOPING they can either blank a used D.I.M so I can have a software reload OR clone a used D.I.M with my J.D.M D.I.M's info, then have the language download. Thats my plan anyway. The very last resort is just fit a M.P.H face plate. This is the cheapest option, BUT would mean my odometer still reads in K.M.H ; (

Only real problems I have had has been with dry and damaged pipework and rubber boots along with the dried out trim moulding, all due to the extra heat/sun. So there were 3 initial issues I noticed with the car. Firstly the sunroof did not work Which I'm fairly certain is due to a failed alarm siren Second was this a broken side repeater And thirdly a floppy key.

First thing to go was the sat nav & E.T.C & wiring (Electronic Toll Collection) due to the majority of motorways in Japan being chargeable Toll Roads. This is some of said wiring, Then there was this

On a plus I found it had these Winner! On the down side where the sat nav had been mounted it has left a mark & the rubber screen trims are badly perished.

So this is how it looked when I got back after driving through torrential rain for 2 hours Bumper for the restorection which I collected from way over on the west coast of Scotland. And after a quick bath with my spare 18" Pegasus wheels And with restorection, going to the body shop tomorrow for some paint work (restorection that is, hence black bumper, the V70 is Almost perfect!)

Having said that I don't have any mini discs anyway. My other R has an HU803, So is the 801 a better unit then ? I've hopefully sourced one from a localish breaker. But as you say there are a few on eBay. I've also toyed with fitting an aftermarket one like the blue planet, but I think it's really going to start running away with costs if I go that route.

Find the Relay that controls the roof and check it's ok. Make sure it's got a live to it when you operate the switch. May just be a blown fuse.

So, checked the fuse & could not find a specific relay for the sunroof ? I spoke with a local Volvo specialist who said that if you get the U.E.M codes 0004 & 0005 that it is more than likely the alarm siren causing the roof to stop working! I replaced the alarm siren & reconfigured the alarm system & voila the roof now works!

My parts have also arrived earlier this week. First job was to replace the lower arms as the front bushes were split & that was all I could really see that it would have needed for an M.O.T. I opted for the Lemforder arms as I could not justify the £160 each! Arms from Volvo as the bushes fail after couple of years anyway. My plan is to have the old arms vapour blasted & fit polybushes, they will be only there for a couple of months tops, there also pretty easy to fit, it only took an hour to fit the pair including getting tools, & setting the car up on the lift.

Had a spare hour on Monday so I thought I'd check the A/C system. Although it got cool inside the car it was not as cool as the 'Daily' ? So after a recharge all's well

A couple of underside pics I'm amazed that this is still intact! Original fuel filter too! The car is in very good condition for its age, I seen newer vehicles in a far worse state. I will jet wash it underneath and apply some wax type coating to help protect it from our harsh winters.

Next T.C.V I have succumb to peer pressure and opted for the Black valves now, I will just change them every year as a service item. They aren't that expensive as I found a place that sells them for about £25 plus postage.

One of the 3 problems I initially noticed was it had a floppy key and as that was the only remote key that came with it I ordered a new one key This was a bonus! Can't see why you would get a pair ? So I'm assuming I got a spare gratis ? Ready for cutting, assembly & coding

Thursday was the day I got the D.I.M coded. Goodbye J.D.M clocks Hello U.K D.I.M Spot the problem ? Fuel computer still ready in metric K.M's/Litres! Luckily it was just a simple programming issue I could sort using my own V.I.D.A So what started out as a not too bad option of getting M.P.H clocks got very pricey as there was £300 of software needed to get them & the key working :(

So on Saturday I serviced the transmission & axles, well nearly all the axles :/ Tie bar polybushes & upper strut bar solid mounts & polybush Before After Old bush New bush Solid mounts. Old Transmission oil Hooked up like an I.V ! Fresh in, soiled out I only ordered 8 litres thinking that would be fine, unfortunately it was still coming out dirty! It should be OK for now, I will drop & flush it in a couple of months when I next change the oil & filter on the engine. But next time I will run 12 to 16 litres through it so it is clear.

I attempted to replace the A.O.C/Haldex filter but as I remembered from last year when I changed it on the 'Restorection' there is insufficient clearance to get the filter in! I will TRy again in a month or so when the car is registered and on the road, but as I want to grease the prop AND clean the filter on the pump it is no big deal as the flange has to be removed to get the pump out. As this pic shows the filter is slightly larger the the clearance between the prop flange & filter housing My 'Daily' is an MY06 and has a different set up so is easier to change, I thought the earlier models were different. The screws were awkward to remove, but with the right tool are doable, hence I will attempt it again when I have a spare day.

Almost forgot, cleared learned values & reset oil counter It seems a little better but I'm hoping once the polybushed tie bar & the software is updated (I am assuming that it needs the modified software ) All will be well again.

SPARK PLUGS So it had FOMOCO (Ford Motor Company) plugs ? Which is odd considering it has full dealer history ?

Number 2 of the 3 issues were these After Comparison And this is another issue I've noticed The majority of the conduit under the bonnet is like this, it just crumbles away ? Neither Restorection or the Daily are like this so it must be down to the heat in Japan ?

And the final piece to the puzzle was this And it fitted Apparently these are N.L.A ? This came through Volvo Historic from another dealer presumably ? How much truth is on this I don't know, but it did take a week for it to turn up! I also bagged a set of N.O.S mats (no pics of these yet!) To round it off

Yes it was a little bit of a result as I did NOT fancy stripping out the roof lining! Apparently the Alarm siren is on the same L.I.N bus as the sunroof module, I'm presuming that the U.E.M or C.E.M sends out a signal it goes to the siren first, because the siren is faulty the signal cannot go any further so the sunroof becomes inop ? Just need to give it good clean and it is pretty much good to go! I'm hoping to have it registered for early July. Etienne.

So a couple of set backs this week. Firstly this: Which is some what disappointing, this was the second one that came like this! And the next problem was this: This is how it turned up the other day, it was inadequately packaged hence the damage! And finally had a couple custom key rings made up to match the Atacama interior of the car. On a plus note, carried out a U.E.M reset & the remote fob seems to have its normal range back as opposed to having to be right up at the side of the car! Etienne.

I wouldn't worry the sponge bit. Most people remove it anyway. It does nothing other than mute the induction sound. Without it, the car will sound better.

Lol - I was looking earlier at the OPs picture & couldn't see the problem - I assumed when I did mine that the foam wrap was just additional packaging to stop the fins getting damaged in transport! Ever day is a day at school :slap: However I can confirm intake suffered no ill effects - but to be fair - the one I changed out didn't have the foam ;)
