Hello, my fellow Volvo performance fans! I will be purchasing a 1.6 Turbo Diesel Volvo as a first car soon as my mother owns a '08 C70 T5 and my farther owns the awesome torquery 2.0 Turbo diesel V50 R-design estate. Long story short is I want to get a C30 and modify it and insurance will only let me insure the 1.6 Turbo diesel model(s). Now my question is what year is the best for performance to modify, cause I heard that after a certain year they went to a 2-Valve per cylinder design opposed to the classic 16v motor. I want to upgrade the motor to around 130bwhp-155bwhp (130hp is enough though if I can't increase it more to 155hp) what is the best year(s) to buy if I want to upgrade the motor. I want to keep the car for a good four years until I can get something like a AWD Volvo. Many thanks, Bradley (Brad)

Welcome along Fella. Sounds like you come from a decent blood line :) I can't help with your diesel shaped conundrum I'm afraid, but hopefully someone around here will know. We don't really see much of the smaller diesels with them not being performance orientated as such, but we've all been 17 and tried to insure anything that would pull the skin off a rice pudding! Remap wise, look into Shark. I think they do maps for most of the smaller engines as well as the bigger stuff. Obviously I don't need to tell you to declare it to your insurer, as they'd have a field day of they found out afterwards if you had a bump. One of the first things they check now.

:welcome: I remember being young, don't worry it gets better...some information here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=255825 & have a look on parkers website to see when the D2 (8 valve) engine came in for the car you want. Looks like they came with 6-speed boxes so that may be an easy way to identify http://www.parkers.co.uk/volvo/c30/coupe-2007/specs/ The mappers below are claiming 130 - 140 hp at the crank for the 16v and 8v models....not recommending any of them just found by searching: http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=39&fueltype=2&model=415&variant=2216 http://www.rica.nl/chiptuning.php?v=37-487-2118 http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/volvo/c30/c30-p1-2007/1-6d-109-bhp/remaps-5722 Not much in it really you'd be better off considering things like self-regen DPF and whether you prefer 5 or 6 speed. 140 at the crank is going to be about 115 at the wheels btw, which was better than my first car :) http://www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/calculator4.php
