hi guys , bend a rod on the t5 , rookie mistake with a mbc chasing a few more psi . anyways I have access to a 2.3 t5 engine from a s60 t5 me7 , with this engine fit in the 850 with out to much trouble , the engines look identical apart from the cam cover and inlet mani . my plan was fit the engine and use the 850 inlet mani and cam cover but unsure if this is the right way to go about it as he me7 engine runs vvt which the 850 does not . cheers in advance

It will fit but not work. You cannot control the VVT, the inlet ports are different shapes, the oil cooler's different. You can use the bottom end if you either keep the rear water pipe and oil cooler it change the sump. The front and side engine anchors are different and the rear lower upper engine mount bracket hole needs tapping out to M10 and machining for the locating lug. I would fit 1,the correct engine (with suitable boost). 2, forged rods. 3, an engine with stronger rods from the factory. If it will help I can supply an ECU that will go into limp mode if you try and run more boost than is safe for standard rods. Running an MBC and blindly raising the boost will never give a good all round improvement in performance, at lower revs you will be able to raise the boost to higher than most remaps BUT the increased air flow will make it run lean. The leaner it runs the faster the burn, the faster the burn the higher the peak piston and con rod load. This you cannot afford with standard 850 rods. For standard early rods you want a rich mixture under full load to slow the burn and spread the load over more of the power stroke.

cheers mate , some good info there , might have to stick with the 850 head to keep things simple on the engine swap

cheers tim , what would be the quickest way to get the car back up and running , me7 block with the 850 head , 850 water pipe and oil cooler ?

A 2.3 4.4 T5 engine from an s,v,c70 would be your best bet as everything is a direct fit and it won't have bore wear like an 850 engine. To use the ME7 one just use the bottom end with sump, rear water pipe and oil cooler. You will need the front and side engine anchors.

I think the engine is from a s60 t5 tim , not sure if that helps
