whats the towing capacity of a Rav4, because a Rolls Royce & trailer isn't going to be light

Trailers start at about 400 kg for a single axle & that Rolls looks too long so would need a twin probably. So about 2500 kg. Not quite the 85% of kerb weight recommended..! If the guy took his driving test prior to 1997 no B+E trailer test would be required & it's legal for him to pull a trailer much heavier than his car. Daft but legal
the max towing capacity I could find for any Rav4 was 2000kg (2016 is only 1,650kg). The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow has a kurb weight of 2100kg, & thats excluding the weight of the trailer

I have a Legacy with the same towing limit (2 Te) but since I passed my test after '97 I can only tow about 1400 kg = 2030 kg car max loaded weight plus trailer plated weight say 1400 kg must be less than 3500 total. Plus the kerb weight of the legacy is about 1500 kg so I can't tow more than that unless I do a B+E test.
i took my test before 97, only ever towed a Jetski so probably a weight around 600kg with trailer. I'm glad because that all sounds very complicated lol

For me, unbraked trailer should be half of the kerb weight or half of the towing capacity max something like that. I've never towed anything but was sick of paying money out for moving cars & bikes around so started reading up & got a decent tow car (IMHO) so I can do it myself. I'll give any Rolls Royce a miss though for now until I get a Rav4 :/

It was only pure luck only the car was damaged, & still caused alot of unnecessary delays & work for the emergency services

It mentions the Rolls was uninsured. Now it could be that he literally had no cover in place, which for any normal person would be madness ("I just bought a classic Rolls and decided to trailer it all the way to Spain with no insurance!"), but for someone whose made such a stupid mistake with their towing weights I guess that kind of logic wouldn't be a stretch. I'm inclined to think he did have cover in place, but it's now been invalidated by the illegal towing. Hence he said something along the lines of delays or issues or something with the insurance.

Total dick! He's lucky he never killed anyone. The bloke's g probably got the same amount of intelligence as most 4x4 drivers have...NONE! Like all 4x4 drivers, they think they can pull anything and are invisible. I rest my case. I hope the Police actually do their job and fine him for driving with undue care and attention at the very least.
