Wheel spacers

Having had no experience with wheel spacers I have a few questions. I tried my 8jj 19" pegs on today and found that the tire rubs the strut so to fit them I will meet some wheel spacers. Question is how much clearance should I be looking for? Also will I need longer wheel bolts?

How much? Is it just on the strut body, or on the spring seat? You could nip to Halfords and buy a pair of 5mm universal jobbies to see if that's enough. Any more than that and you're going to need something hubcentric as the nib on the hub won't reach the centre bore of the wheel any more. As for longer bolts, strictly speaking then yes you should use them, but I've used standard bolts with a 5mm spacer for years without problems. Wouldn't for any more than 5mm though.

Had thought about getting some 10mm hubcentric ones and bolts which I guess would give me 8 or 9mm clearance on strut body which I think is what the clearance on the 225/45/17s are

No worries. I'd try the cheepo 5mm jobbies first as they only cost about a fiver or so for a pair. Long time since I bought any, like. Hubcentric cost much more. Too much spacing and they'll rub on the outer arch on big bumps and hard cornering. A couple of mm clearance or so will be fine.
