Hey Guys, Not been on here for a while since i was driving a c class for ages. The time came to get rid of it and move back to Volvo Mostly this is because fiancee is pregnant, so need to save some cash but it's been a worth while wait after 2 years. Anyhoo, i picked up a 2003 S60 SE 2.0T for with full Volvo service history, cam belt just done etc with 88k on it. I still have my c70 t5, just don't have time to sort that the now :-( It has some niggles that need ironed out. The first one being the issue with the passangers door When the ignition is at position 2 the power to the door works fine, window works, lock, and mirror. As soon as the engine is started the power dies to it. I am a bit stumped so far as can't find anything else like this on the net. It seems like the s60 have some common electrical issue so i would except it not to work at all, but no Has anyone came across this at all ?. I'm thinking that when engine is running a short somewhere is occurring which is pulling the current away from the door. Don't really want to start taking door panel off just yet if don't need to. It has been suggested that cable inside rubber might be shorting, although the door works fine when closed Anyone have any idea's ? I'll get some pics up soon, it a sort of light blue color Cheers

Do the lights in the window switches light up when they are working do the lights still work with the fault.

Yeah everything works fine until the engine starts. Done some digging there and the DDM/PDM is controlled from the UEM which is in the ( Rear view mirror, although this is coded to the car ) I've only had car few days and not noticed the rear view mirror dimming or not, if it does not this would point to some sort of fault. When engine is running the voltage through fuse 35, is approx 13.5v DC so possibly pushing more current through PCB in UEM and there is a component failing. What you think ?

So i found out the DTC menu checker. Under it it shows that DTC in Vechile says DDM DTC SET so assume this is ok says PDM CHECKING when start engine and do the same i get PDM NOT CHECKED so this point to actually loss of power, reading from the PDM, which im not convinced stems from the UEM

When the car reader says set that means there a fault logged in that module. Here's a list of the modules around the car. Image The first thing I would test is the battery as if that's low that can upset the network.

Morning Harvey, I'll get this checked today. fingers crossed

So it's not the battery, The rear view mirror def seems not to auto dim at night. It seems constantly dimmed. Going to look at this more next i think

I'd check the connection to the switch pack, the pins are known to corrode and cause all kinds of weird issues. I cleaned mine with nail files of different sizes.

Cheers MRP, had the door panel off few days ago to have a look at it. Was working away down in borders so didnt want to tinker too much in case i caused a problem which would stop the car from starting

unless you have dealer software, your really gonna struggle with this. It will guide you through what to check, where to check and what you should see. Otherwise, your going to be looking at a software reload at the very least to get it working anyway, so you may as well just save your time and effort and drive it to the dealer now.

Or it was changed and the S/W reloaded which has since failed (or something else for that matter ). I actually have the option of asking the previous owner as he took it to the local Volvo specialist i used to use when i had the c70 on the road. The part number was written down so i've taken a £17.50 punt and found on on fleebay with same part number. I will clean all contacts when i get a chance and if it works great. If not i'll swap and cross my fingers. Failing all that i'll take it to the dealer. Anyone have an idea of price to check and diagnosis with S/W upgrade if needed ?

So, progress. It turns out the PDM was never changed as per Volvo back in 2007. The DDM infact has been changed and ends in 116, the quoted number for the PDM should end in 117 which it does not. This is the one i have ordered from ebay. Going to call dealer on Monday, explain the situation. Hopefully since i will have the PDM with correct part number they will just need to handle the S/W part

Software is approx £30-40 and diagnosis is normally charged at 30 minutes labour. Plus the vat your looking around £100 to be fixed. Otherwise it's a module too and that will be pricey.

Cheers Lee, I'm pretty sure the module is gubbed now. Can they use the one i got fro ebay with the part number quoted back in 2007 ?

Post 785074 by LeeT5 on 2015-09-08 01:17:30

If the module you have of the bay has the same part# then it can be used. Volvo will need to erase the firmware and reload for it to work, assuming the module is working ok?

Post 785137 by bubba_1986 on 2015-09-08 18:29:46

Yeah the bad news is that the modules can not be wiped, so dealer tells me The part number is order on ebay matches what they quoted but not what is on the car the now. I spent hours last night trying to find someone to virgin/flash a PDM for me. No joy, closest i got was ECMtech guy on here who is now not trading by looks of it. I'll try the one that arrived but don't hold out much hope. I now have suspension knocking to deal with, thanks to access roads to Scottish water sites :-( Hopefully IPD seats and New bearings will sort it out. Changed drop links at weekend

I do believe the PDM is a simple affair, which is why the software cannot be over written. It's like fixed firmware and the PDM doesn't have the capability (hardware) to be erased/reprogrammed, unlike a SUM, for example, which can be erased and re loaded. I'm guessing the PDM is not that expensive if that's the case. Best bet is to just get a new module then.

Post 785243 by bubba_1986 on 2015-09-09 08:39:45

New module plus the S/W and vat comes in at around £375 So think i'll be leaving this for the now, baby on the way and its coming into winter so i'll just have to live with it. Going to concentrate on the suspension for the time being. Put a spanner on drivers top mount last night and gave it a turn. Makes a hell of a squeak, i can hear a knock from both sides when pushing down on it. From what i can gather the top mounts,( both parts ) fail quite often and the IPD route is the best ? The wishbones were changed by volvo only 10k ago, i've done drop links so hoping it is the mounts Is there anything else i should be looking out for ? Cheers
