Having considered the risks (gearbox) and after a good test drive, we bought a XC90 T6 today for Rachel to use for her work car, as having first found the S70, and then the V70R too small, she needs something bigger. Really happy with how it drives, the gearbox is smooth, if very dim witted, it goes alright, though obviously 272 bhp in a 2.5 tonne car isn't going to set the world alight. It has loads of equipment, although still haven't worked out how to use the DVD player for the rear seats. There are a couple of niggly bits need doing, the n/s headlight washer cover's missing, and the n/s rear door doesn't work from the inside (yes we have tried the childlock ;) ), but overall it's in good nick, with full service history. Still needs a good clean inside and out. Obviously I have pics. :D

You forgot the S70. :P The V70R and S70 are both being sold, as they were bought for Rachel to use for work, and she's outgrown both of them (5 children in a V70 even with rear facing seats is a squash lol).

Didn't know you have 5 kids!! Wow, now I know why you need the XC90. I could really use the space in the back of one for my foam. Have you got buyers lined up for the cars that you're selling?

Hahahahahahahaha, we only have the one, Charlie, but Rachel's a nanny, and looks after up to 4 children, so she needs the space.

Looks nice Steve, the only difference between yours and the one i had is mine was black and had factory black windows, enjoy it mate and dont look at the fuel consumption lol

Thanks mate, it has got privacy glass on the rear windows, I managed 18.7 mpg on a 70 mile trip collecting it today, so no worse than the V70R. :D

It's really comfortable, and I was worried I may be getting old when driving it earlier, as it was nice just wafting along looking down (literally) on other road users. :)

Yeah, you don't realize the benefits of a higher car until you drive one. My wife had a Frontera years ago and that was great from the ride height point of view. Unfortunately, everything else about the car was crap at best.

Nicci won't drive normal / low seated cars now, the touran and meriva are a bit higher / not low, but she's short lol so I guess it helps.

My wife is also short'ish, and she felt as though people got out of her way in the Vauxhall bus.

I like these cars, seem fantastic for the money. Is there any preventative maintenance that can be done on the 'box? Change/flush the ATF maybe?

I've been told regular fluid changes help and raising the pressure of the gearbox oil.

:lol: travelling mate.....back to UK. Cream crackered. Got upgraded to business class too. I don't think the stewardesses had ever seen a poundstretcher carrier bag before :) me & the bairn have been unpacking B6 shocks, rear strut brace, blue injectors & all sorts...project thread to be updated! Even tried to spray the PFV shock gaiters 'bilstein' blue...:)

Makes sense, Stribo, I think flaring gets caused by the atf in the valve block getting a bit sludgy and slow to respond. Can this be done using Vida , or is a stealer thing?

It sounds like it might be a good idea, mine flares a little sometimes , and it does that clunk thing when you engage drive, quite often. I have never heard of it before and I have searched just about everything that has ever been written about these boxes.

Aye, that and a proper ATF cooler have got to be good.
Mine's at around 130k now, so some preventative maintenance is probably well overdue.
The XC looks nice.btw.

I think it's done through VIDA, Deathrider would be the man to ask, as it was him who advised me to get it done.

If its going be used for her work, and if its going to be stop start traffic, i can't wait to see what mpg it does ;)
Xc90's are great place to be when you just want a relaxing drive and at least the t6 does have the power for safe overtaking.

In my opinion an xc90 is the most comfortable 4x4 and I`ve driven a 13-14 plate ones.Good choice mate.

Then you've never driven a Defender 2 or 3! Beats the XC90 hands down. However, they are no more reliable than an XC90.

Lol, yeah I meant a disco. The defender is awful, great utility and off roader but not as a daily driver.

I bet the disco 3s are a bit more expensive.
Xc90s always seem pretty safe and user friendly with a big boot.
My dad had a new disco 3 as a company car work hack, he didn't like it much as I recall.
Something about being slow iirc it was a diesel, wasn't cheap £40k ish
