Vehicle just left

Five weeks ago a Mazda 2013 MX was left parked outside a neighbour's property who does not have a disabled parking permit but has to walk with a stick. This is a public road and apparently no offence has been caused. We have suggested to the police that the vehicle could have been stolen and left, they did a quick check and the vehicle has not been reported as stolen and is fully taxed. We believe it belongs to a lady driver. Approximately 3 nights ago I was working late and noticed 2 chaps looking around the vehicle this was about 0100 hours. Could be viewing to steal. Again I informed the police who said this may be the only way it will be moved. Unfortunately it is taxed until September 2015. If the vehicle was untaxed then it could be moved. I understand the Police can find out who the owner is. I suggested they contact the owner and ask them to park in a more convenient location. To leave a car parked up for now 6 weeks is taking the p155. I can honestly see this car being stolen as it is in very good condition. Anybody had a similar experiences. Would not be too bad if we knew what the problem was. As we know the registration number how can we find the vehicle owner to warn them against theft

Do you live near an airport....maybe taking advantage of free cheap parking! My parents live at bottom of a bank & all sorts of abandoned vehicles seem to collect there, or at least that's how they look. They don't last long....at least the police were interested enough to run a check. https://www.gov.uk/report-abandoned-vehicle Bit of info here that seems to say it will be down to the council to move it & they probably won't touch it if taxed

Send £2.50 to the DVLA along with a completed V888 and they'll provide you with the registered keepers address.

I fail to see the issue to be honest. Ok, it's a hassle for the old lady, but there's no restriction in place at the spot parked, and the car is legal, so it's fair game. My work mate was in India for a couple of months and left his fairly new car parked up. There could be all manner of reasons. For all you and the other residents know the owner may have a rational reason for leaving it there, and they may be checking it regularly. Has anyone left a note under the wipers? When I lived in London my cars often sat in tge same space for months without moving, sometimes several streets away, but they were legal. People can be funny and territorial about the space outside their house but there's nowt you can do if no offense has been made.

^^fair do's it's not an offence but i always feel it's a bit presumptious of the owners who leave these cars in the middle of a populated area - suddenly everyone within sight of the car is providing free 'security' and also maybe has to avoid it while parking near or kids playing games. When I'm away i make sure my car is off the road either on someone else's drive or in storage. If i parked it up outside of someone else's house for 2 months i would not be surprised to find it a different shape on returning....

i had a car park on my garden & the Police said they couldn't do anything about it lol. I checked myself & it was taxed, insured & MOT'd. Phoned the police & even they were amazed, but rang back & said its of no interest to them as its not stolen or on the database for any offences, she said to get the owners address from the DVLA, or wait 4-6weeks & sell it (bloody Peugeot so wouldn't of got anything for it). It disappeared that night but we had put a note under the wipers

It's on a public highway. Nothing you can do.... As the saying goes, "you pay for road tax for a reason.." I park all over the place all the time... I'd probably wind you up

We all accept that it is a public road very close to a school so we do have parking problems at school pick up time but this is only a short period of time, we also have people parking to make a visit into town, again not a problem as it is a public road. Other problems that in our part of the road is when neighbour's from 20 or so houses away go on holiday, not leave their vehicles parked outside their own property but park up outside our property, when discussed all that is said is that it is a public road. Let me assure you would not wind me up if you had parked your own vehicle outside my property, it would be moved if it was left for two to three weeks, unfortunately we have a lot of stolen vehicles in our area which have been abandoned and they get moved very quickly. I still consider leaving a vehicle parked outside some persons house for 6 weeks is taking the p155. But that's just my opinion which coincides with approximately 20 home owners who feel the same way.

It's not outside your house though? So why are you getting involved?! Don't me wrong, if someone dumped a car outside my house, if I couldn't find who's it was, out would come my chain, and it would be gone. But if it's outside my neighbours house? That's not my problem! Certainly not one I would be wasting police time over! Still, gives you something to do I suppose!

I'm not a homeowner and live in a flat, not a property with on street parking, so perhaps my opinion is biased, and perhaps I'd feel differently if the shoe were on the other foot. But, I don't see why people get wound up about a legal, normal car being parked normally on the street for any length of time. It baffles me! Fair enough if it's blocking access, parked badly, stolen, unlicensed, uninsured, or even if it's just tatty and abloody eye sore! But everyone of us has a right to park anywhere on the public highway - within reason - so long as it's in the boundaries of the law. Witihin reason doesn't include being parked for more than a month! Just because some people think it's odd, inconsiderate, inconvenient etc is just a matter of opinion and changes nothing. For all yiu know the owner could have been visiting someone in the area and fallen ill. They could be hospitalised right now, or even dead. Any number of reasons. Just leave a note on the windscreen, or if it bothers you that much pay the DVLA for the details and write to the owner. It's up to them if they choose to move it.

You could check to see if there's a tax disc on display, if there isn't, possibly removing the number plates would see the offending vehicle removed promptly. All depends on how badly the neighbourhood want the car gone I suppose. Obviously these actions are not condoned in any way by myself or the forum :B_thumb:

Did you ask the police was there any reports about yr car...? I was wondering why someone took your plates

Well after 10 weeks the lady who owned the Mazda decided to move it to another location where she did not have to obtain a residents parking. A neighbour who watched the vehicle being moved late one evening went outside to speak to her and asked a simple question why she had left her car parked 10 weeks. Apparently her reply was F--k off this is a public road and I can leave my car parked where I want to. Last week we have found she has done the same thing in another road close to us. Unfortunately not such a nice area as ours and we were told on Monday this week all the wheels had been removed and it was up on bricks. Terrible what some people will do. Just not worth taking the p155 nowadays as you never know who you are dealing with.
