Well as one is next to finished I did plan on starting the 240 but then this came up and well the itch happened. Image Image Image Image Had it on the lift and found a few faults and that's it every thing else is really good First off abs fault well there was bound to be a fault as some had chopped the wires and bust the sensors in their holders god knows what posses some one to do this. Image Image Image And the second one The joys of cut springs Image Image All in all tho im really happy with it god knows what im going to do the first idea was to break it and use the parts I needed for the 16v conversion but its just too nice to break so going to store it for a while and see what happens first off is to take the wheels off and roof rack and fit the polaris wheels. The spec Full top of the range cd spec full leather with electric drivers seat and heated seats air con cruse control sun roof remote locking same as later 850's later 13mm rod red block engine great m90 gear box 5x 16" alloys soon to be sold full galvo roof rack soon to be sold Paint work in extremely good nick and best of all 92k miles

Looks a good future project

P reg it might be lh2.4 as well. Mine is 98 r reg, just made some 320 v70 p2 calipers and discs fit, under some 17 steelies, without spacers. It's being painted at the moment but I'll update my thread when it's back with pics. Have you got the locker diff?

Post 759859 by t5 pete on 2015-02-15 21:55:59

Yeah its a 97 p reg I will have a look at the ecu through next week and see which one it is I was hoping it was a locker diff but its just a 1031 not too bothered tho as if I do decide to keep it in one piece I will fit a proper lsd diff in.

Post 759861 by Dangerous Dave on 2015-02-15 22:01:49

Loving it :D Being a P reg it will have all the nice refinements on it too. My bro smashed his 940 up, but has another to transfer the turbo engine and other goodies into. Oh and if you break it, I'll have the bonnet :)

Post 759863 by t5 pete on 2015-02-15 22:26:56

you want to be looking for a 1041 which is a g80 locker which engages up to 25mph there is a locker mod you can do tho which will leave it locked for longer so have busted them and others have not I geuss its pot luck. Tbh I need to do a lot of research on the tuning side as I've only maintained the rwd Volvos never tuned them ive just took a pic of my ecu which I will upload and hopefully its a 2.4 it does say 2.4.2 on it so I assume it is

You need to scrape the undersealer from the tag on the diff to see which it has if the tag is missing jack the car up and rotate one wheel by had as fast as you can shortly the opposite wheel should spin aswell How do you tell if its lh4.2 then

http://strikeengine.com/volvo-parts-tuning/volvo-700-900-turbo-tuning-guide.html Should say on it, here's a simple guide ignore the turbo info as where they come from I'm guessing he's more a 740/940 man

Post 759879 by t5 pete on 2015-02-16 00:02:59

quite a nice write up on that link but doesn't give a definite answer tbh I thought there would be much more info on the net as to how to identify lh2.2 from 2.4

I just bought as late and good as I could find a 98 car with 2 owners 118k, body had been scraped here and there but solid and bargain at £450. Buying late it's all the new better hardware, I think yours will be 2.4
Bugger £500 try £300
from the link above: The 740 and 940 turbos can be picked up for as little as 500GBP . For this price you can expect full leather interior, no rust, well looked after and a carefully driven model with service history and for a couple of grand more you can get 500bhp. In!

I tried to buy mechanically sound as Steve will do the paint and this car was local, old disabled chap service every year 4k miles, he just couldn't park it for toffee. It's a celebration so quite loaded. Cheap speed, put a boost gauge in Mbc, chip, 17 steelies 205/45/17 bilsteins and -40mm springs 320mm brakes 14psi, blues, so getting there, raiding my parts bin. New 850r clutch and billet 19t or k24 I have both spare just undecided

Mine will be put a way for a while the idea is 16v turbo engine T35 turbo Gripper diff Once there sorted the rest is just bits and bobs

Post 759897 by Ettienne on 2015-02-16 08:30:05

I'm in half a mind to fit a t5 lump to mine. But at the same time I may buy a 242 from Europe to do it too.
Mine will be put a way for a while the idea is 16v turbo engine T35 turbo Gripper diff Once there sorted the rest is just bits and bobs[/QUOTE A lot of work to do the 16v turbo engine it's easier to fit a t5 lump. Iirc you have to remove the balancer shaft as its prone to failure, not that it's terribly hard to do. However European 940s came with the 16v turbo

Machine shop for that you can rent a jig but for the little extra minds well do it right

Post 759925 by barkster1971 on 2015-02-16 14:39:33

If you want 500bhp ( possible with gt35 turbo and 16v ) then you'll be wanting forged pistons and rods. If you don't want 500bhp then stick with 8v turbo. Did you get both manifolds with the 16v head? And if you want an lsd I'd stick a Ford 9" back axle. Decent engine management too makes it a lot easier above 300bhp. That's my next step really.

Post 759930 by t5 pete on 2015-02-16 15:14:22

Looking for 400hp I have a full 16v engine complete with every thing I think 400 will be on the verge of the original rods and pistons but will keep with them until I've got it up and running What car did that axel come in and what engine management is wise

Post 759997 by barkster1971 on 2015-02-17 07:46:05

I'd go with the b234 engine and turbo it , I was looking into getting a J pipe made up using the na manifold for a twin scroll turbo. If you don't want the b234 short block I'll have it! The 1041 axle are on wentworth 940 (2 litre), or like mine early 960's which is meant to be the slightly stronger 1041k. The Ford explorers and rangers have the strong axle with an lsd already in. For 400bhp I'd (personally) put a hx40 on an 8v (or an evo 8 16g). Theres's one on turbo bricks - http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=304561 Running on E85 helps a lot but there's ££££ all petrol stations with it anywhere in the UK. The B234 may have skinny 9mm rods though! You definitely want decent engine mangement above 300bhp, probably megasquirt, vems, Haltec etc as the chips only go so far.

Post 760001 by t5 pete on 2015-02-17 08:43:33

Yes will be using the fk bottom end with the 16v top I know the average can do really well but I just don't want 8 valves I want 16 always been greedy lol. It's quite annoying ad many years ago I had a go locker sat around doing nothing so got rid as I thought ide never use it well lesson learnt never throw anything away

Take it your keeping the parts for your other project?
Yeah it was a shame but I needed the engine and other bits and Bobs I also promised the prev owner I wouldn't sell it on for making a profit as a whole so had no choice but to break but then again I doubt any one would want it without a engine lol So now just waiting on log book coming back to guy with 240 and then I can tax it and pick it up
What happened?
The original plan was always to do a 240 so needed a late 940 for engine this one came up for cheap and tbh was in really good condition so I thought about doing the 16v in it but I just kept wanting a 240 so decided to break it and now I've found a 240 the plan is back on track.
