i know a few people who have classic cars now have done what the bike people been doing for a while getting replica tax disks like the cars first ever disk, so for my 850 it would be 21/09/96 i think? expirary date ect may do it. but may not

Off their bloody rockers thinking they'll get a grand for a piece of paper a day after over 10,000,000 taxed vehicles no longer need them!!!

I wonder if the S60 one will be worth anything, DVLA had run down their printing stock and run out of perforated disks, so the one I've got is on ordinary paper.
I wonder if the S60 one will be worth anything, DVLA had run down their printing stock and run out of perforated disks, so the one I've got is on ordinary paper.
Probably not colin, as my mrs has one the same.

I'm currently sporting a disc that says expired November 2013 (car is taxed...140-odd quid a year due to small engine :D)

Post 738724 by WOODY T5 on 2014-10-01 22:52:45

mines still in the window

Post 738725 by JUDGENINJA on 2014-10-01 22:53:31

Mine will probably get removed when I wash it next..... So probably never..

I wonder if vosa will change the rules, will you be able to leave the tax disc holder in the screen now it's not a legal requirement to display it anymore ?.

Post 738745 by JamesT5 on 2014-10-02 08:31:27

I thought about putting a really out of date one in the window and waving at the cops as I drive by (very slowly). :shifty: :mischievo

Post 738747 by JamesT5 on 2014-10-02 08:32:35
I wonder if vosa will change the rules, will you be able to leave the tax disc holder in the screen now it's not a legal requirement to display it anymore ?.
The way the MOT's are going, it will be a fail if you display a tax disc because your vision is obstructed.

I was thinking of doing that too - I've got one from 2008 IIRC :D
I was thinking of doing that too - I've got one from 2008 IIRC :D
I've got loads of old ones as well.

Post 738781 by stribo on 2014-10-02 10:23:43

I think the earliest one I still have is 1991, might pop that in.

Post 738784 by p fandango on 2014-10-02 10:31:50

I renewed the messerschmitts tax last month, did it online & got a printed one at the bottom of a letter. Think it's still on the window sill in the hall

Post 738869 by dionbullock on 2014-10-02 15:25:15

How about displaying club logo's in the holders instead of actual tax discs? Easy way of spotting members cars :)

Post 738873 by Ettienne on 2014-10-02 15:29:37

How about displaying club logo's in the holders instead of actual tax discs? Easy way of spotting members cars :)
That's actually a very good idea! Something that's bright red or similar that can be spotted easily from a distance.

So long as it's not 'Gay Gold'

I haven't displayed the TAX DISC on any of my bikes for about 15 years...it's NEVER been an issue

Post 739087 by LeeT5 on 2014-10-02 21:00:46

Car will look a lot cleaner from the front without the white disc! Going to remove mine tomorrow :)

Post 739102 by cherry1809 on 2014-10-02 21:09:12

Think he's a little confused? Last tax disc because it's the end of September? Tw@. Mine runs out 03/15, maybe I should stick it on for £2000 as it's even rarer...
I haven't displayed the TAX DISC on any of my bikes for about 15 years...it's NEVER been an issue
Yeah, because you ride so fast the ANPR cameras can't pick up your VRN. :D ;)

However, most bikers know, you don't need to ride fast to dodge the ANPR (you need to be doing over 170mph iirc) you just need to pull a fat wheelie.

Post 739176 by M-R-P on 2014-10-03 08:17:42

Beat me to it.

Post 739179 by stribo on 2014-10-03 08:48:02

It wouldn't matter if the ANPR did clock Chris' bike, as it's taxed, he just didn't display the tax disc.

Post 739184 by JamesT5 on 2014-10-03 09:23:05

I did mean 'fast' and yes, it was a typo.

Post 739185 by JamesT5 on 2014-10-03 09:24:11

Corrected. :D Sorry, I was touch typing at the time and trying to watch something on the Crime Channel on Sky. :)
Probably not colin, as my mrs has one the same.
I've got one as well, already looks like it's started to fade, perhaps I should get a plain piece of paper and cut it to the size of a disc and claim it's a faded temporary disc.. Might be a collectable you see ;)

Post 739205 by JamesT5 on 2014-10-03 11:39:47

I wonder how Post Offices will suffer because of the Tax Disc being consigned to history. A lot of people used the Post Office for the car tax to get the tax disc on the spot, perhaps Post Offices will suffer a slower trade as less people opt to go there and tax online instead now they no longer get a disc. Some people don't have internet access for instance, so they'll continue to use the Post Office I would imagine.
