Its been a long time coming and must itch the rwd fun to be had
Nice I would like a evo head for mine in the future
Yep wanted one of these for along time just got to buy a late 940 now for rest of bits
Yep wanted one of these for along time just got to buy a late 940 now for rest of bits
I know a man that just got one lying around doing nothing :)
very nice, are you keeping it stock or are you gonna have a play with it?
very nice, are you keeping it stock or are you gonna have a play with it?
Oh no got to have a nice turbo on there custom manifolds etc etc
I know a man that just got one lying around doing nothing :)
Yep minds well donate it
eh which car is this going in?
It will go in the next one going to build it up over winter and source rest of parts then will be on the look out for another 240
16v red block a rare beast
16v red block a rare beast
Yep certainly is will probably donate the gul to the other half when its done and this will be the new toy need to start looking into stand alone ecus shouldnt be too hard to tune as it will virtually be the same set up as the cosworth
Come on then Mr Smith when are you donating me this car you have laying around so Jimbob says ?
Are you sticking with the b234 complete engine or just putting the 16v head on a b230 block. Silveruser has still got the yoshifab tensioner conversion for sale. So you buying a hx40 next? and forged internals and megasquirt and a top banana clutch and exhaust manifold!
Are you sticking with the b234 complete engine or just putting the 16v head on a b230 block. Silveruser has still got the yoshifab tensioner conversion for sale. The set up will be nearly the same a as cosworth T34 turbo. also if you know of any one with a b20 oil pan let me know
do a seller search on ebay for him, it's the retro turbo stuff. You looking to mount it vertically then. If you're putting it in a rhd 240 you'll need it vertical to free up some space.
That's correct that's why I need it vertically will do the search now for silveruser
Unless he sells candy floss that's the only user ebay comes up with for silver user
retro turbo on facebook, peter is his name.
Found him bud cheers its actually his own kit which he makes up butneed to order all sorts from josh so going to get them from there

If you do this though, you'll need to re-think clutch master cyl (if running hydraulic clutch and manual) - you could use an aftermarket cyl and/or pedal box here and mount on the inside of the cabin. It may also be worth re-thinking the brake booster if you plan to run a very elaborate exh manifold. There are a few different 240 steering columns, with the knuckle in different places from different years that you could make use of when you're chasing exhaust system clearance. Obviously you wont run a head mounted dizzy as it just wont clear. Having the engine on the slant also frees up some space on the intake side too so you can get creative there. If you go vertical though, you can make use of a B20 sump for clearance but you're then thinking about mounts, etc. I'd personally go slanted and I'd go with a real ECU rather than a hobbyist ECU like Megasquirt. Looking forward to some progress pics!

I will be looking into fitting a slim brake servo and as I have lots of room on the intake side I can make a custom inlet or I may look into the cosworth manifold. I need to have a talk to a decent tuner with regards what way to go for the ecu as it will be near enough the same as a cosworth so ill see what they recommend and what they use, what would you call a real ecu? Pic's will be here but may me awhile as ive still got to finish the gull and then this project will be put on the back burner while I source parts and another 240.
There's definately pros and cons of both and if you're not using a Volvo gearbox, mounting vertically can make a lot of sense. Regarding ECUs, Autronic SMC and Motec M84 are fairly well featured and not rediculously expensive. The Haltech E6X was quite popular a few years ago and was very good, but has been discontinued for some time - there is still some good support out there for it though.
Well found a nice 240 glt and will hopefully be picking it up soon also got the fk block been looking at rods and going to order a set just over £200 for all four I will also get new pistons. Going to lakes at the weekend and will be on the look out for a 1041 axel and after that I just need to get hold of a borgwarner warner t5 gear box and I can start fabrication on the vert set up
If you find an early 960 there get the 1041k axle off it. Meant to be a little bit stronger than the 1041 mainly on the 2litre Wentworths.
Thank you Barkster hopefully there will be one there
There's a nice set of galaxy alloys on a white motor and a decent set of comets too on a reddish motor.
He'll get the Galaxies! Lol
He'll get the Galaxies! Lol
Lol i think there wanting to sell that car as a whole ill just have to make do with the polaris.
What does the K after 1041 stand for ?
Awesome day at lakes and look what I've bagged
You got a barcode?
What does the K after 1041 stand for ?
Kool I'm hoping lol dunno tbh but Barkster and all the info on the net point to the 1041 k being stronger than the 1041
You got a barcode?
Yeah it's been a life long dream of mine to have one just like this

The 1041 diffs are locker diffs the k means that it's from a 960
K is for kick ass.
Picking the 240 up tomorrow also got a t5 gear box and just waiting on classic swede fining me a b20 oil pan and bell housing
Being a proper Brick fan I shall be watching this with intent! Waiting for a 940 to turn up myself so I can build myself a weapon.
Gear box should be here today
Spoilt for choice dug all the parts out so should be making a start got to break the white one first for the manual conversion

I know it's late, but I see TWO white ones?
I see one white and two silvers? Your eyes must be failing you in your old age :P
My friends putting a 16v head on frankies old 744, the engine came up for stupid money in local breakers so I grabbed it. I do like a turbo charged old brick, silver is not a bad colour to start with either I may well t5 a 242/244 in the future when last few bits are finished up, but a few home things to do as well.
Lol ones white ones silver and the other is green The silver one will be painted same colour as the green one quite a rare colour I believe and I certainly haven't seem many like it
Which one's the green one? The far away one? :P
The closest
Paint code 178Green metallic/Silver green metallic240 260 760 It's one of them weird colours some times it looks green then silver
I really like the red one :)
Ah yes good choice sir the one next to the two white ones
progress?
He's been busy buying lots of nice bits but don't tell his Mrs :)
He's been busy buying lots of nice bits but don't tell his Mrs :)
I'm going to tell her tomorrow...
Haha yes ide forgot about this thread ill up date later on
What rods did you go for in the end? I had second thoughts on the eBay specials, think I'm going to go with a set from Sten Palmer from KG Trimning.
Chinese specials. The one's from Sweden are made there I believe. Less than £200 on ebay.
No chinky specials I've gone all wiseco fully forged

Haha! Little Pete loving the 240 revamp!!! Lol!
No chinky specials I've gone all wiseco fully forged
Where did you get rods and pistons from Pete? The Don?? Trying to find a dealer for wise co stuff but struggling!

Car of the year 2016? I think so. Never fail to impress big man.
Just got word from bell supplier the custom bells are near completion so roll on ap brakes for the 240
Just looking at the turbo'd 2.0 16v 940/960s it would work out quite cheap to buy one from Europe for the engine.
Just got word from bell supplier the custom bells are near completion so roll on ap brakes for the 240
Oblarks used some of my 850 discs to fit 312s 4 pots on his 244, under 16" steelies. Bells and rotors are very nice though

I thought I had some photos of the brakes with the wheels but I can't find them but I did find this one.

Very nice but I dropped on a set of ap brakes so it would be rude not to run 325mm under polaris something no one has been able to do same for mat with his 330mm s60r brakes to run with no spacers. I'll also have a set of ap calliper brackets and bells for sale for the fwd t5's
Just looking at the turbo'd 2.0 16v 940/960s it would work out quite cheap to buy one from Europe for the engine.
For a standard car possibly but with what I'm running it would need every thing uprating anyway.

When you've finished queefing, what turbo you putting on and what power are you expecting. I may get my 16v head up to 300-320 cfm from the stock 220, that should give me easily 500 bhp at 2 bar boost.

might be putting a gtw3884 on mine. A gt30 might be a bit too small, but I've seen the odd one that looks huge, must depend on version. The hx40 is heavy, will need a good manifold!
Great big turbos are fine for bragging rights but tbh that's where it ends also our engines are of a small diplacment even with a low a/r there going to take a time to spool. A good 500 hp with decent traction off the line will take some beating. Just for instance james t5r has a much bigger turbo and much more power than my custom 19t but setting off on the 1/4 the 19t just leaves it it's only till 3rd gear pull and he's on ful power he starts to pull me in by that time the race is over.

Nothing wrong with truck turbos!
Nothing wrong with truck turbos!
Certainly not if you want to wait a age for it to start building
Not true. Like Smithy earlier stated, it depends on the exhaust size. You can easily match holset to your liking. Affordable, strong and capable.
Is yours running jay?
I suppose time will tell
What engine management you using? Bit of nitrous will soon get a big turbo spooled up. The optical dsm cas from yoshifab looks like a good bit of kit.
Just currently going through a few suppliers at the mo as before having custom parts made we need to know what pick ups the chosen choice of management uses and also need to find some one who's happy mapping a system currently talking with Tim
Yes the nitrous would be a good idea
Jays car has been running reliable for ages now and it's his daily lol.he uses a 25 litre fuel cell with twin Bosch 044 pumps .his car has got a hx40 super with billet wheels and twin external wastgates .and has the yoshi inlet manifold and tubular exhaust .he runs 1000cc injectors on high capacity fuel rail and runs nearly 2 bar of boost lol.and he is still on l.h 2.4 with chips .but he has max tuning Swedish standalone in his cupboard waiting to go on when he fits his forged penta block back in .he also runs BMW gearboxes and explorer axle .take it from me the car is mad lol
My cars running sweet, thanks. Need more power!! Yours?
Maxx ecu, www.maxx tuning.eu, is good piece of kit. Good support and loads of options. You can also use tablet, like nexus 7, as a touch screen dash. I've got this. Nifty piece of kit..

The guys from Sweden come over regularly. First choice of lot of volvo powered cars in Scandinavia. . If you need a hand, let me know..
Don't go Omex. You will regret it..been there..
Cool cheers ive been looking at emerald and aem at the min but this good news if we can get the Maxx ecu tuned
Emerald is bit basic, support can be bit hard to get.. AEM, you really need a specialist and leave it to them.not DIY.. Vems is good, I've heard good reports. .
Adaptronic..? I have an ECU & loom to fit although haven't done it yet
Ohhhh, shiny bits....
And let the fun begin

You not done this yet? Jesus, Smithy will be done before you at this rate.
Haha I'm taking a leaf out of Smithy's book
That's the diff near enough sorted think I can re use the bearings

Just got all new bearings for the real axle
Have you had the rods checked for balance? I looked at the K1's for mine but yet to see anyone in the Volvo world to use them.
Why would I need brand new rods checking. There's many people running k1 rods espically lots of 16v people who are running big power also wobbly dave and paul uses them in their t5 engines. K1 are highly regarded as one of the leading manufacturers but most people don't like the price tag so use Chinese rods
Why wouldn't you? Lotta moneys worth of shiney parts to just throw together without even making sure they're fit for use! 99% of engine builders will balance the entire bottom end before use. Where did you get them from if you don't mind me asking? Other than eGay specials and Sten Palmers from KG Trimning at eye watering prices there's not a lot of middle ground, I found K1's at about £480 which isn't too bad.

Absolutely nothing wrong with K1. Quality stuff..
Got the trailing arms and wish bones back from blasting now to add strength.
Also got my angle iron to make the brake calliper brackets out of.
Got my new plates ready for strut brace.
And I think I've decided on a colour.

i bet you just happen to have a set of polaris in the man-cave somewhere too :B_thumb:
Yep and they happen to have my custom fit ap brakes behind them

The blocks back also the head is being fixed which is great news and also have another 16v head on its way

What you had done to the head Pete? Have you settled on a colour yet?
What you had done to the head Pete? Have you settled on a colour yet?
The gasket face was badly corroded due to ££££ or no coolant do needed filling it with weld and then skimmed. Are you on Facebook pal as there's loads of pictures on there
Shiny! Don't suppose you're relocating the oil filter are you? I can't find a suitable relocating plate anywhere! Plenty of sandwich plates for oil coolers but none to actually move the filter.
The oil filter is stick on the backward facing heat exchanger bit. To use the external oil cooler that was fitted to the b230et etc , it helps to have the older style engine mounting brackets. If you're tapping the oil drain the fitting is hampered by the oil filter placement. And if you notice the tube back to the water pump it is useful to have the ne shown as the b230fk one has the pipes coming off that loop round the oil drain to the heat exchanger.

And managed to source another 16v head so this one will come in as a spare as they managed to repair the other one.

Also got the gear box and bell housing sorted
