The bottom pic is BCS (boost control solenoid) take the pipes off the MBC and throw it in the bin, reconnect the vac lines to BCS and your engine will last a bit longer :)

That is the standard boost control solenoid. The map can't regulate boost without that!

The reason for the mbc over remap is so you get full boost in every gear unlike restricted in 1St two with the map, not really a good idea though as others will tell you

i swear by mbc's. I was disagreeing that they can't be used with a map, you just have to be carefull

I guess the best bet is to plumb back in the bcs and see how it runs. Anyone know what kind of boost i should expect roughly with a Rica map? All the hoses are tired so will replace them bit by bit as i go along

Which pipes go where on the bcs also? Does it fit in where the mbc is just now?

There shouldn't be fuel cut is it a violent cut of stuttering when on full boost in the higher gears if its the latter most likely the plugs also before doing any more hard runs do a good stage 0 service

I'm going today to buy the stuff to service over the weekend. It's like a stuttering that you can drive through if that makes sense. I've had fuel cut on imprezas before and it is more violent that what i'm getting. Uprated plugs a must then?
Going to try locate a standard airbox too. At the power i'm running i'm sure it will be fine.

Hello, I do not understand much of Acronym posted here and not much of some translated words (this trans drive me crazy .. lol).
But I always good to check the fuel injectors relative to its sealing and flow can be great variations which leave the rich mixture.
For the ignition system (cables plugs) spray water always shows leakage along the path of the cables.
Hope I'm not talking nonsense and within the contest.

Had a MBC fitted to both of my cars 854 and 855 guls! And never ever had any problems or issues what so ever just make sure you don't over boost :D

Iirc With the BCS fitted back on the air box,top pipe goes to the re circ, middle to the air intake and bottom to the compressor housing.
4mm silicon 2m of will replace it and costs not much.
The boost can also be held back by the mbc, this could be a problem also the original BCS usually die around 100k so v70r etc me7 ones are good replacements.

You want to early v70 bcs not the me7 tcv.
just remember what mbc stands for

Well i took your advice on plugs. Our local Volvo dealer isn't helpful. So i went to the factors and i got a set of NGK Iridium plugs. Home, fitted, test run, sorted. Has stopped the stuttering and is pulling nice and smooth. Very pleased!
So next onto boost.
It was going to around 13psi and tailing back to 10psi so first thing done was remove the dump valve and plug it. It doesn't drop back as quick now so there is slight improvement. However it does still tail off. The mbc isn't the best. Fittings are damaged slightly so i will need to go, my mate has a new one i'll fit just now.
In the process of ordering some piping to replace the worn cut standard stuff. Then i can plumb in bcs. Cheers for the info on where the pipes go. Tbh if i was careful and kept the mbc at 16psi there is no real need for bcs other than i hate seeing a mbc in my engine bay!

To be honest it's fast just now so if i get it it holding a nice steady 16psi i think i'll be a happy chappy.
Just been another run and it is a lot better without the bov. Throttle response better and smoother. At what stage does the recirc valve need to be uprated? Seen the Forge one is readily available.
Been in today to see my mate who owns a custom exhaust place, going for a 2.5" turbo back system. Open downpipe obviously too so i'd imagine that'll help things move a bit quicker.
£45 on plugs and a couple hrs tinkering and i'm very pleased with improvement. Also forgot to mention i filled it with Tesco 99ron fuel so that may have helped too

Any benefit in buying a decent ebc? A mate of mine has a HKS one he's never fitted. I remember having one similar fitted on a Rover 620ti years ago (another totally under rated turbocharged barge!)

i've got an Apexi AVC-R, & i prefer a normal mbc. I can't get the Apexi to be as aggressive an mbc

Hmmm i'll save a few pennies and stick with a mbc. Are there any other common places for them to leak pressure?

Anyone able to confirm if the ecu is standard or not? Looks like one of the chips on the left isn't standard.
Seems legit and is a lot faster than a standard T5. No invoice in history however.
This is the mbc. Just not sure the need for it.
Also does anyone know what this is? Was found down behind the battery???
