'Bonny' has had a Valet (by me)

So my first job on 'Bonny' as the new owner was the give the car a damn good clean. To be fair, it was filthy and if I'm honest probably isn't even finished yet but it looks substantially better than it did 10 hours prior to finishing the job. The leather will need some leather paint at some point with the exception of the drivers seat which needs replacing if I want it to look half decent (the current one looks like a dog has chewed it). :D The alloys are from a Ford Mondeo and are tatty anyway so at some point I'll be changing them but they'll do for now. So I got to work cleaning the inside and outside and it's not been easy. It was caked in a thick layer of dirt which has taken a lot of shifting but it's been well worth it. Here' a collection of photos showing various before and after shots, mainly on the inside....... (p.s. I also washed the cone filter which was about as black as I've ever sen one). :D Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Good work, always nice to get stuck in :) Wasn't the damage to the glovebox from having a gearbox sat there?
Wasn't the damage to the glovebox from having a gearbox sat there?
i hadn't took the satnav out the glovebox before putting the gearbox in either which someone found rather funny Image

I remember seeing the gearbox in there. Cars looking a lot better now it's had a clean.

Post 724159 by JamesT5 on 2014-07-14 12:25:28

The car does look a lot better now, I'll pop some more photos up shortly. I found the o/s front Tyre was going down rather quickly, turned out to be a leaky valve which I've had replaced today and it's fine now, all leak checked by some pro's down the road. Ultimately these Ford wheels will have to go and as soon as possible. :ashamed: :hidesbehi

where's the D gone off the grill :( lol

Post 724268 by JamesT5 on 2014-07-14 22:49:50

By the way, I chucked out a few coke cans and soft drinks bottles, serviettes and McDonalds related stuff from under the back seats. Also, the car didn't cost me £300, it cost me £299 because there was about a quid in change under the seats and in the compartments. On a side note, I found out why the A/C doesn't work today - there's a leak in the system. The back tail gate skin has now been riveted back on using OE clips from the Main Stealers..... Image Image Image Image Image T5 and D5 together after a wash and wipe..... Image Image p.s..... I should really sort out the wonky number plate (I know....) :D Image
where's the D gone off the grill :( lol
I thought it looked tacky and pretentious. I still have it, do you want it back...? :D
you ventured under the seats, brave man
Not a coke can or piece of polystyrene in sight now. :D
I thought it looked tacky and pretentious. I still have it, do you want it back...? :D
it was done as a joke as someone (no names Mr Evans) put a very tacky R badge on the grill of his tractor

Post 725527 by JamesT5 on 2014-07-22 20:57:20

Couldn't resist getting the Meguires on the body work again today...... Don't tell Duane, he'll be wanting it back soon (valeting surcharge)........ :shhh: ;) Image Image Image Oh, and I forgot to mention the day, I did a stop-gap fix for the torn drivers seat. Yes that's right, I really did Loctite superglue the damn thing as best as possible. I also did the V70 one which turned out a lot better as it was less torn. Well, I thought if I had this idea I should 'stick' to it........ :band:  Image The mats (there was only 3 when I got the car :wtf: ) were given the washing machine treatment last week and I've put them back in today (sorry for the blurry images)....... Post 725594 by volvokid on 2014-07-23 06:30:49

Haha the drivers seat on my D5 is glued too, it's horrible, God knows what abuse my car got to burst the seat.

Post 725602 by p fandango on 2014-07-23 08:20:14

the floor mats were a cheap set off ebay think the drivers one came apart

Post 725777 by Liddo on 2014-07-24 10:52:45

I glued the seat in my Green S60, then when I went to get it repaired properly, the guy wasnt happy as he bent lots and lots of needle re-doing the seam :D He also said Super Glue will rot the material...............yes material, its not leather on the bolster, only where your body is in contact with the seat is leather ;) Looking lovely and "clean" for a change. Will look even better with "proper" wheels on :D

Thanks for all the positive comments, the car does look a lot better now and it's cost hardly anything to do either. There's some scratches over it which I'll touch in with some touch-up paint form Volvo, then wet sand the area and polish and wax, it's something I did on the T5 and it improved the appearance of the car ten-fold. The inside looks night and day different, I even impress myself when I get in to the car. With the glovebox cover, I can either re-upholster the surface with just the coating or get a tidy one from a breakers. I just need a cup holder to go in to the dash next to the radio and a few lightbulbs for the DIM and the inside will be looking a lot better for not very much money at all. Oh, I love the 'little jobs'. :D
