Normally when installing a tow bar a full fitting kit is required which includes spreader plates that fit into the chassis rails of the car for the bolts to thread into, so not just a case of what size bolts are required, as I learnt from my 850 experience there are no threads in the chassis rails for the bolts to go into, so my cheap £40 tow bar off my mate cost me nearly the same as a new full kit by the time I got the bolts and spreaders, not sure if this is the same for the later models, but can't see things like that changing over the years

I think twice now when thinking about second hand tow bars, new ones can work out just as cheap, when you buy a cheapy second hand bar and then have to fork out for the proper spreaders and bolts etc, to fit it and you don't really know the history of the bar, not that it's likely to fail, but who knows what has happened to it before you bought it....?
Yes good valid points fella , as yes it's gonna cost me s few quid for the steel to fabricate plates , then the bolts , then the time etc to make them , yeah it could of been a silly buy , ahh well , too late now hey , thanks again mole , you couldn't send me a pic of the spreader plates could u , when ya can ?? Cheers for the help[/QUOTE] unfortunately I forgot to remove the tow bar from our 850 gle when it got written off a few years back, I don't have any pictures either, but from what I recall they were 3mm thick strips of steel with a captive nut on, long enough to poke up the chassis rails to the corresponding bolt hole, width of strip was a stock size under the width of the chassis rail and the bolts can easily be determined by measuring the holes in the chassis rail and getting the nearest metric size, yours being a v70 p1 will be the same as an 850 towbar and fittings wise, the back bumper has to be removed for this install so you'll need some rivets to re assemble that as well, hope that helps
Whenever i used to sell a tow bar i sold the complete fitting kit with it and told the new owner to replace the nuts and bolts..
Well I'm going to fabricate some steel plates and use locking nuts in the rear chassis rails , probably won't be the prettiest job but you can't see it , bit miffed about having to remove the rear bumper , will see if I can work around it , as long as it don't fall off down m1 , it be right lol . Will make a loom up for it , and jack straight into the rear lights , well I won't me mate lee will who's an electrician .
