just bought my 3rd v70 t5 2005 plate with 180k on the clock yesterday with this problem..
under acceleration from 2800 to about 3500 rpm there is a rattle! sounds like its coming from the aux belt area somewhere. its there when I rev the car from stationary too..
any help with diagnosing it would be greatly appreciated thanks ...

I had this issue the other day, sounded like my turbo was shot, changed that, was still there, turned out to be a snapped exhaust bracket rattling on the exhaust.
Only thing i could suggest is to get it jacked up and have a nose around, hit a few things with your hand see if anything is loose and causing the rattle

cheers dan.
had the aux belt off this morning and spun each pulley. I did notice that when I spun the a/c compressor pulley there was a sound like bells!...??
and the tensioner pulley had a tiny bit of play in it.
will get it up on the ramps today and have a good look. cheers..;)

FOUND IT !!
I have sussed it that it only occurs when the engine is warm.
so again took the aux belt off.....started the car...NO RATTLE/SCREECH ;)
sprayed the a/c compressor pulley with copper slip refitted the belt NO RATTLE/SCREECH
it was noisey just before I switched off to take the belt off.
im wondering now if its possible to just replace the pulley or am I better replacing the the whole compressor with pulley?
I can relax now as I was beginning to think it was in the timming belt area!
