The engine in my T5 is a little tired and burning a bit of oil and getting a bit noisey top end wise.
I have a spare engine that has been stood for a long time so am thinking about rebuilding that to go in.
As it has been stood for so long I will stick in a new set of rings and bearing, new belt kit and replace all the seals.
Is there anything else I should be thinking of doing while the engine is apart? I had been thinking about some NA cams but I'm not sure how they would work out on a Auto.
Are there any head porting tricks worth doing while everything is apart?

Not much I can add other than clean/new injectors work wonders for a new build. Often overlooked.

I was going to swap the injector over from the engine that is in the car rather than use the ones that have been stood. Good point and something that is often overlooked.

Forged rods and bigger turbo

Would be silly not to fit forged rods mate and a bigger turbo as smithy said would be an advantage.Keep posting.

I'm fairly certain that all the rods will be made by the same company in China. I keep telling everyone else to change rods as the first tuning step in these engine so would be silly I suppose to ignore my own advice!
I'm not sure what to think turbo wise, what is the most popular upgrade that works well?

I have a set of those rods on the way to me as we will see what they are like.
