Hi all, just hoping someone can help. I just started the car this morning and noticed the engine Warning light was on. The car seems to drive fine, but don't know what the issue could be. Is there any check I could do before I take it to get the codes to be read, or is it a common fault for this to happen? Also would the light need to be manually reset or does is it automatically clear once the problem is rectified. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You need to read the codes first, a generic code reader should give you a good idea of what's going on.
You need to read the codes first, a generic code reader should give you a good idea of what's going on.
Thanks for the reply, I am looking to buy a diagnostic reader, but was just wondering if it is a ODB2 code reader or any other which will be suitable for the car? I am not too familiar with this kind of stuff. Thanks

on this model i am not sure a generic obdII reader would work as it is the first version of OBDII. the generic ones only work properly with cars after 2001 ish.

I cleared the codes on Mr Shifters pre-ME7 S70 (lambda light etc) with the torque app :)

Hi everyone, Just got that car checked as the engine light was on. It's come with a code DTC - 314 which I have been told is the camshaft position sensor. The guy at the garage couldn't switch the engine light off as it kept reappearing so he said he would have to do a manual check on the car. Don't know if it really needs to be manually checked to find the problem or if his just having me on!!! Does anyone know if the camshaft position sensor is a common fault and can it cause the engine light to switch on? I'm just thinking maybe to change the sensor and hope for the best or should I leave it to the garage? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you don't have your own method (or access) to a code reader that works with your car you are probably best leaving the job to the garage as simply changing the CPS won't clear the fault or turn the light off - Mike
