Shamed into cleaning my Ex Plod

Well I have owned the car for 3 years now after buying it from Expolicecar.co.uk but its only earlier this year that I joined the forum, and since then I have started taking the car away from standard basic police spec. Yesterday was a sunny morning and after reading the thread end of last week on an ex plod being cleaned I thought I should realy give mine a bit of a clean. Due to home and work commitments the car hadnt been cleaned for 7 weeks, and as I generally cover about 500 miles a week in it what was originally was a white car looked grey, this is quite out of charectre for me as I generally give the car a clean once a week. I have attached a few of the clean pics, unfortunatly I didnt think to take any of it before I started cleaning just to show how bad it was. It started firstly with a wash, followed by a coat of Autoglim paint restorer before a resin polish. Good results there, and I bet with 3500 miles of grime washed off it goes faster too lol

Very nice job mate, you always get that proud feeling when you've spent a bit of time on it.... I bet you cannot stop looking out of the window now :)

Yes thats right, only thing is it set me off thinking about all the other bits I want to get done on it now such as steam cleaning the engine bay as that hasnt been cleaned whilst Ive had it, calipers need painting not to mention the other mods I have lined up.

Looks nice mate. It bugs me that the later ex-plods didn't have cruise control (no buttons on your steering wheel), it's such a cheap thing to install in the factory and no motorway cruiser should be without cruise control. I wouldn't want to to half a K a week without it. On the upside, all it would take is a different steering wheel and a software update. Nice to see a plodder getting some love, top marks that man.

Cheers MRP, yes it is a pain not having cruise control, I have a steering wheel on order from royal steering wheels after reading a thread on here a few weeks ago, mine should arrive next week, they didnt want my plod wheel in exchange so if wiring is on new wheel I might just upgrade it to install cruise control. I will post some pics on here once I get it all installed.

I take it it's a Volvo wheel? unplugging the airbag should be done with care and with the battery off for a couple of hours. When reconnecting the battery, have the ignition in position II to avoid the possibility of triggering all the airbags. (it's been known to happen once or twice) In case you didn't know ;)

Yes its a recovered volvo wheel, but with the rim thickened a bit and thumb grips built up, then ive got black nappa leather at top and bottom with perforated leather to the sides, hopefully it should look nice and feel a bit better than the standard plod one.

Mmm didnt have leather when I got it, just had standard cloth trim and very battered door cards, got full leather seats, door cards and glove box from breakers yard, just need a new centre console / arm rest to match as the plod one is scratched to bits along with alloy effect trim around gear stick and stereo / heater controls to match those on the door cards. With regard to the steering wheel I have gone for the 4 spoke similar to whats on, I did tell Royal Steering wheels it was for a 2005 car and have made them aware plugs are different

Jami at Royal steering wheels does really good work. You won't be disappointed. Mine feels great. Well worth the spend considering it is the thing you are holding onto the whole time you are in the car. ...and just cos I'm so chuffed, a bit of porn
