I've done a deal with PFV- buy one this month and one next month. Really, the rain and dark came before I finished, but I'm liking the look of the black projector. Image
What bulbs you getting. I have the standards in and been meaning to upgrade, but no idea what to get
Just staying standard with some Osram Nightbreaker plus. Might upgrade in a few months, but as the old headlights are jiggered, I'm sure they're going to be a lot better anyway.

Post 646388 by stribo on 2013-09-23 19:54:24

Looking good mate, but you may want to consider HIDs, they really do make a difference: Image Image

Post 646390 by foammanmark on 2013-09-23 19:58:01

I may well do so in a while. I had them on my laser and remember how good they were. So long as they're better than the old standard headlights, I'll be happy for a bit.

Post 646391 by AAnickmac on 2013-09-23 19:58:54

Very cool. Love those lights.

Post 646395 by foammanmark on 2013-09-23 20:06:44

I am adding eyebrows next month as I have those on my C70, and like them.

Post 646431 by Logie on 2013-09-23 21:07:34

newbie here those light certainly look a lot better.. are they C70 lights? or aftermarket? oh are they expensive?

Post 646443 by stribo on 2013-09-23 21:39:24

They available here: http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=515_680&products_id=5297 But you can find them on Ebay sometimes.
That's why I did my lights before my grille. ;)
good call fella, the grill in your picture above looks OK, maybe cos it is in good nick. Or maybe cos it's an C70 and I have to admit they look better than the saloons. My grill has the older Volvo badge and a scabby one at that so looks pap compared to the pics above

Post 650005 by foammanmark on 2013-10-04 21:10:19

Should I have these new lights set up properly by someone, or are they usually good to go 'out of the box'? I just don't seem to have much light hitting the road still.

Post 650015 by stribo on 2013-10-04 21:29:20

Mine were fine straight out the box so to speak. You really need to go HID mate, my Cougar had standard projector lights, and they were woeful.
Mine were fine straight out the box so to speak. What's your recommendation on an HID kit then please?

Post 650025 by stribo on 2013-10-04 21:47:05

Mine came with HIDs, so wouldn't know which set to recommend, V70Graham and MRP have bought kits for their's.
What's your recommendation on an HID kit then please?
i've bought many a cheap set (£30) off ebay & only had 1 bulb & 1 ballast blow, the original set in Bonny are still going strong 4 years on

Post 650030 by V70 Graham on 2013-10-04 21:52:03

I went for these Mark..... http://www.hids4u.co.uk/h7-35w-proplus-xenon-hid-conversion-kit.html Not the cheapest, but not a dodgy eBay set either, 5000K with matching sidelights (make sure you get the correct projector bulb) had mine a good few months now and love them. Image

Post 650034 by V70 Graham on 2013-10-04 22:00:25

I'm not knocking all eBay sets, it's just there are a few dodge pots floating around, all I can go on is the set I've bought and they are working just fine lol

Post 650037 by foammanmark on 2013-10-04 22:02:58
I'm not knocking all eBay sets, it's just there are a few dodge pots floating around, all I can go on is the set I've bought and they are working just fine lol
TBH Graham, I just need to get the lights sorted cos I find it quite frightening when I see other cars' headlights in comparison to mine. I saw the place that you used when browsing the web, and for £70, they must be worth a pop.

Post 650611 by partsforvolvos.com on 2013-10-07 12:12:33

they should definately be properly adjusted to ensure correct alignment after installing. sounds to me like they are too low or high at present. if also depends on the height of your individual car as to the correct setting.

Post 650621 by Tomcat on 2013-10-07 12:32:28

I must admit that although the light on these is much better than the old headlights it's still not brilliant. I've got a set of HID's that came with the car but I'm uncertain about trying them as I dont know if they work or not. Basically I'm being lazy as I know that fitting the HID's isn't a two minute job. The LED side light's are awesome though, ok in the daylight but fantastic at night.

Post 650622 by M-R-P on 2013-10-07 12:32:32

Mark - it sounds like you may in fact have the bulb fitted incorrectly. It's very easy to do, even though it's a shaped base. I did it with both my headlights last year and it felt like they went in fine but the MOT man said otherwise. It's worth a check before you go spending more money.

Yep - done it a few times mate. It's easy to over power those spring clips when you're fed up with fiddling with the bloody thing in the dark and cold :(
