Evening folks, I'm seadog.
Signed up here ages ago when I got my 855r. Recently made the move to a 04 v70r, both manuals of course! the lack of traction and square dash began to upset me in the trusty 850. Although the v70 is a much nicer place to be and drive, it just doesn't make the same noise or feel any where near as erratic! It's not till you look at the Speedo you realise how fast the 70 hauls itself along.
I'm quite interested in changing my wheels for a set of Porsche ones I have but can't find any info on running wider wheels with the volvo 4x4 system, anyone have any experience?

Oooh - there's a good question!
235's aren't unusual on the R but any bigger is an unknown. The AWD system can be a funny bitch if not treated right and I know that things like tread depth/pattern and pressures need to be closely monitored so, theoritically, bigger rubber could be a problem.
Normally I'd say "give it a go and see what happens" but the AWD system isn't cheap.

Welcome along :)
Sorry I can't help with your query with regards to the wider wheels/tyres on the AWD system.
any pics of your cars?

Hi, welcome to the forum. Running wider wheels won't be a problem, if they're all the same size. The only thing that'll limit you, is getting them in the wheel arches.

Come have a go in mine and you will take back your comment about it not having the same noise ;)

You dont have to worry about tread depth on the P2s it was only the P1s this was a problem.

will check out the videos at home, stupid work internet! what have you had done engine/exhaust wise? i cant decide between ferrita, ipd or jetex exhaust. wish i could have a miltek like the old R.
VolvoKid - i think we passed each other on the netherly road a few weeks ago, the day the biker died on the A90. i was in my 855?. Seeing your R confirmed that was the right replacement for the old R.
i have the machine shop at work making me a trial adaptor with a couple holes at the correct pcd for porsche, audi and bmw. so i can at least try my other wheels on, spin them by hand and see where the problems will be. the rear porsche wheels will probably be too wide going by first measurements with a tape
a friend bought the 855 so hopefully get some photos of them together sometime. i'm holding off till i get rid of the little swirl marks before getting pics of the v70.

always got time for a fellow fast volvo driver ha!
i managed to get a black manual with atacama. if your anything like me then you will have seen it on ebay. higher than average miles but its been looked after and i intended to do the same.
all this internet talk of them being fragile is off putting but what big fast 4wd estate car (or saloon for that matter) doesnt come with possible problems. i like to think of it as the thinking mans RS6

Martyn sent me a txt that he had seen an 855 on the Netherly Road. We had only just met that day. I spotted his car parked in a layby close to my house so had to stop for a blether.
Where about in Aberdeenshire are you?
