Washed and chamoised the R, before using Megs ultimate compound, ultimate polish and finished off with turtlewax original wax. Did the R and half of the C70, as my arms were totally jiggered. The pics:- Image Image Image Oh, and I stuck some big R stickers on it, so people know what I drive.........

Looks to be a good job, colour looks lovely in those shots :)
Looks to be a good job, colour looks lovely in those shots :)
Thanks, and I'm just amazed at how much better the car is after all the 'extra' work. I thought it looked OK before after a wash and a quick polish, but today has changed my mind.

Looking good, but you need to put some wax on to protect it.
Looking good, but you need to put some wax on to protect it.
I put the Turtlewax Original stuff on, which is a real sod to remove if you apply too much at a time. That's decent gear isn't it?
Turtlewax original polish, is what you have written, did you mean original wax?
Sorry, it would be wax rather than polish!!
Sorry, it would be wax rather than polish!!
Did wonder why you had polished it twice. Turtlewax is ok, but meguires is better and easier to use. Their nxt gen stuff is really easy to use and wipes off without leaving any residue.

I picked up the other stuff at the Demon Tweeks meets a few weeks ago, and I'm glad that I did.

I used an aplicator pad to put it on and 2 microfibre towels to take it off, one to take the majority of the wax and the other to buff.

As said looks a very nice deep Blue now! Its all about trying and what works for you when cleaning/detailing a car. Good effort!

My arms might be up to doing a bit more later today, weather permitting also.

Looking well dude, not sure on the stickers but the car looks well. It's all about the effort mate, I've polished mine twice since I got it & Volvo paint is better than vauxhall, it retains its depth much better. No 2 ways about it though, I can see a respray on the cards for the bullion. Lol
Good to hear mate! Enjoy. We should maybe set up a photoshoot if urself and other members would like? Dont think ill organise thou loll tooooooo much of a head ache :slap:
The C70 needs to come down as soon as I have the funds, which may be October now. It needs a good service and that sump tray looking at. A photoshoot would be good, but it's finding some decent weather, when we can detail the cars and get them to the meet without rain etc. Easier said than done, especially when you live up here...........

I have tiny polestar stickers on my quarter windows. They give me an extra 25bhp I reckon. ;)

I don't think anymore will be going in the rear window.....

I don't know if I'm just imagining it, but the car which has had the good detailing isn't getting mucky sat on the street like the other car which I only managed to do part of the car. The Nautic is still amazing me how much better it looks, and I have got the oldest and shiniest car on our street.
Another plus point about a properly cleaned and protected car is it's much easier to clean in the first place and therefore easier to retreat when necessary ;)
Question: so I did this work a few days ago, and if I want to get her back to this standard again say next weekend, do I skip the compound and just go for the polish and then wax?

Post 638427 by graemewelch on 2013-08-25 15:05:19

a good wash and some quick detailer should it. add a layer of wax once a month and itll always look good

The car now has a coating of dust/sand after a couple of seaside trips, but I can still see the paint sort of gleaming through the dust. The other thing I've noticed is that a while after a shower, all the other cars are dry, but the R still has small beads of water all over it.
