Away to start day 3 of the Rs first detail, hopefully I will get all the correction work done today, then I will get the wheels off and clean underneath plus seal the wheels with this fancy new stuff. Then back onto the paint for its blackfire range. Will have a few other things to do that will take time lets see what I can get done today.

Ive used it a few times. I bought it when I had my black C70. My final products are gloss enhancing polish, wet diamond paint protection, and midnight sun wax plus deep gloss spray. I use there metal sealant too on the exhaust pipes. Going to use the gtechniq c4 on the plastic, g1 for glass and c5 for the alloys. I will admit im not going mental on the swirl removal because im doing it out side so a pass with menzerna power finnish followed with final finnish is all im doing.
i only used final finish on mine. found that was enough. look fotward to the results

Got all the polishing done, so took the wheels off and cleaned the arches with degreaser and tardis, going to paint the hubs silver again tomorrow. I thought I would give the engine a quick clean before I called it a night, I didn't use my normal P21S degreaser, I had a concoction of megs and autosmart stuff to hand so used that, it seems to have turned one of my blue engine covers funny, so not sure if I will manage to do anything with it tomorrow but I will try, if not I will get new covers in the future.
So still got a good bit to do yet just glad the polishing stage is over, I can now get on with the sealants.
Don't forget to polish your nuts er no it's bolts.:redface:

i used to find i could tell the difference as soon as i put the all paint protection on. not sure about mid night sun wax that why was asking about pics. heres the finish i got last summer

So today was a disaster wee man had to take today off nursery because he has conjunctivitis, I did get my hubs painted when he went to bed though, I'm glad because there is rain forecast for tomorow so don't think I will get anything done tomorrow.

Well I got more done than expected today I started off by cleaning my alloys because it was raining I couldn't focus on the paint work on the car, back to the alloys my cleaning processes was wonder wheels (I never ever use this stuff on this car but I wanted to give them a good clean), Tardis, Auto Finesse Iron Out, Megs degreaser for the tyres, IPA then protected them with C5 Wheel Armour this stuff should last a year!!! not the cheapest either at £22.50 for a tiny bottle that will only do one set of wheels its very easy to use though. I then dressed the tyres with Megs endurance i've only ever used this stuff it works really well but im considering giving another product a go after this is finished. I took my valve sleaves and caps off and soaked them in wonder wheels this does an amazing job and they come up like new with no effort from me, I also thought I would try the same with my hub bolts and I got the same results no polish necessary Graeme ;) I then sealed them with the Blackfire All Metal Sealant. Got the wheels back on and torqued up, I then focused on the tail pipes I never let them get bad so a quick polish with Raceglaze Alutech Metal Polish and sealed with Blackfire All Metal Sealant did the trick.
The weather started to hold dry for a bit so i gave the car a jet down and went over it with Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish and Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection then it started hammering it down so I called it a day. Graeme I did try to take pictures with my SLR but they didn't come out, I just checked on the computer. I was wanting to set it up on the tripod and keep it in the same spot so you could see the difference but I was just trying to beat the weather.
Here is a quick shot taken with me phone of the beading, this is before any wax :) the blackfire wax dosen't bead all that well so I don't expect much more once its done.

I had a quick look at my engine bay plastics after I dressed them with 303 Aerospace Protectant and I can honestly say I don't see anything wrong with them, so I'm not sure what it was.
Pity we couldn't of seen pic's the of alloys Martyn it all sounds very interesting. :smile:

I know what you mean... I would love to be able to spend some quality time on my car. I've been on Holiday for the past 2 weeks and haven't even had a sniff, unless I get out there at 5 or 6am whilst everyone is asleep I don't have a chance. I'm dying to use the Meguiars Polishing machine but will have to wait until I can find the time...
I'm the same, these light nights help at least I can go out when he is in bed. I've found that the V2 seems to be a cheaper made machine, you don't get a case any more only a bag and the yellow guard is now plastic. Lucky I've got my old case, the v2 is actually a bigger machine.

It runs just the same I have found, I have used a kestral in the past and the megs feels much nicer to use.

I keep on thinking about ordering a new windscreen for my car because its stone chipped before i use the window sealent but I don't like people changing things like that plus its still its original windscreen, when they did my saffy they broke all the clips and used silicone to glue the stripe down, I wasn't impressed when I was sitting at 70 and the thing flew up!!!

Just been out and did my rear bumper top cover and rear wiper blade with the C4 Permanent Trim Restorer. looking forward to getting the cover under the windscreen done, thats the one that is a pain to blacken every time I clean the car, If I have some left I might do the mud flaps, and maybe the blue engine covers.

I will start off with the three flaws that I will hopefully sort out next year if I can keep my paws out of my savings. I also want to get the front resprayed to get rid of the stone chips.
Front NS mud flap must have scraped the paint off before I got it, and tiny bit of rust started, so I did a bodge repair not long after I got the car, and no rust has ever came back.
The rear bumper was also painted due to a bump on the Rear OS by the previous owner, It was one of those chips away type repairs and they only did half of the bumper so you can see the colour difference!!! it does my head in, even though I never noticed it until I was washing the car one night and it stood out, this is the only thing that really lets the car down IMO because you do see it if you are following the car!
The rear OS door was painted by Volvo I think back in 2007, I took the top coat of a couple months back.
I still don't know what level of paint correction I have achieved because I never took the lights out to check, these pictures are quite poor due to the weather being really overcast so there is no real paint correction pictures.

Sorry Graeme I think I would need new hub bolts, the rust has set in already, but they aren't bad, that's almost what they where like before, I would have been quite angry If I had spent all that time polishing them.
Engine with some covers degreased with IPA, you can see that the degreaser has damaged my engine cover, it actually says on the PB site to be careful with this degreaser but oh well, you live and learn, I'm sure once you see the after picture you will agree they look pretty good now.

Must say the car is looking very smart,I don't think I will be removing the wheels to clean up my shocks (well not yet). What did you put on the engine blue covers ,was it C4 ?. Wheels do look good in the colour aswell ,nice finish. So what do you think of C4 on your black plastics bits.
Took my car in today for a full paint rectification and detail valet, ended up booking it in for a respray!!! That's gonna hurt my wallet, I knew I should of ignored thus thread grrrrrrr
Pure Class Marytn and some Beautifully taken Photo's your attention to detail is to be commended! Your Engine Cover looks much better now it's difficult to see any defect. I love the new light bulbs and Under the Arches. The Paint defects would be Driving me insane as well everytime I looked at the Motor... You will get them sorted in time and TBH if any of us saw the car in the Flesh we probably wouldn't be able to tell... You should make the last Photo of your car looking out to Sea your Sig Pic... It's a really nice Photo and makes your Car look stunning. Thanks for a Very interesting thread.... Love the MTE stickers! :smile:

I originally used my 303 on the plastics but with them being damaged (kind of) I thought I would apply the C4 for more longevity. Lets hope it lasts, but the stuff is very easy to use unlike the G1 for the glass, boy is that stuff stubborn to come off. I also used the C4 on the wiper panel, mud flaps and fog light grills. Yeah the alloys are very good, my 19's on the saffy are the same colour, polished bliss recommended them. I had my local paint place make up a tin of spray paint the same colour so that I could paint my badges.

PB will recommend any paint work before they touch your car. One day I will get a big garage and I can compete with these guys lol I know the techniques, I went to a few training days at PB. It was a real pain doing all that outside in fact I would say it would be almost impossible to correct the paint perfectly outside there is far to much contaminants in the air that will land on your car, I hosed it down 4 times in between tasks.

Stunning, simply stunning. If we're honest with ourselves we've all got areas of our cars were unhappy with. Even taking the points you've highlighted into consideration it doesn't take anything away from the fact that your car is a fantastic example of a V70R, your efforts are truly a credit to that car!

I wish I was 18 again when you could give me a bucket and sponge then a leather chamois followed with some AG polish on an old rag and I would be happy with the results all in a mornings work.

I've often thought about spending a long time detailing my car properly, but with the crap weather we have in this country and me using the car every day I really can't be arsed lol. I'm currently driving wait for it....... a Gay gold 2002 s60 2.0 lpt lol and its auto! tbh i actually really like it lol although its not much use to me as it hasnt got 7 seats, so as a keeper it outa the window lol shame. :(

Without wanting to continue the off topic stance this thread has taken I think it's important to break the term classic down. I totally agree that the yellow T-5R's will most likely be the car out the 850 range to fetch the most but it will not be the only classic. What I think is important to point out is there are classics and there are desirable classics. An Austin Allegro is a classic car without doubt, but desirable.. I'm not convinced, 850's will reach classic status whether you like it or not its just not all of them will be the "desirable classics" that a yellow T-5R will be, and its the desirability that will add the value..

A Yugo is now a rare car, but doesn't mean it will be desirable or worth anything lol.

The DA really has made the difference, I seen it for the first time under direct sunlight yesterday and I couldn't see any marring or swirls so im really really happy. Its maybe not up to PB stsndards level of correction but if I cant see anything with my eyes that's all that matters. Im hoping some of these new sealants ive tried are going to make a big difference when cleaning the car now, it should make life easier

I actually take back my comment about not seeing any marks, the sun was beating down on it and there where some fine pig tailing on the paint I could have refined these out if I spent more time per panel, I dont think anyone will be going in close enough to inspect my paint work to notice :p
Gee finally found this post and Martyn your lucky you have got the time to do all that work on a car. Have you detailed the other R yet that you have been contracted to do :wink:if not why not??? I hope you have not damaged it or been driving like a loony and if you have you wont get paid. I will pick it up in about four weeks when I get back from sunny France.

I think the plastic restore stuff has started to come off though, well on the rear wiper it has, the rest is still perfect.
