the megs one ( the newer one ) sort of inherited it, seem ok to me, but I no expert in this field, but I do know its pretty much idiot proof and won't go as far as damaging your paint as far as I can see
I've got the Aldi one. Exactly the same as the Halfrauds one. It does the job well enough for me but prolonged use will make your hands tingle :o
Haha i use an ebay knock off of a halfrauds one. Agree to the hand tingle!
Haha i use an ebay knock off of a halfrauds one. Agree to the hand tingle!
It'll be the same as mine. I got it for 13.99. If used in industry, it'll have a trigger time of about 20 minutes lol.
I got the "clean you car" DAS 6 Pro one with the nice long power lead.
i bought a halfords one, it was advertised in the shop at 50 quid but online for some reason 30 so i got them to knock 20 quid off lol
Would like one that doesn't have to be plugged into the mains if i could.
for rotery ive got a dodo juice which is nice and light (nice for the finishing stages and a 3M for work, but if you want DA defanatly get the meguiars mate
ok, i have been using my Halfords machine polisher all day, a word of advice dont its crap, these big ones are useless, they stop spinning with any kind of effort even even just holding it gently on the paint it hardly spins, get a small proffesional one mate
ok, i have been using my Halfords machine polisher all day, a word of advice dont its crap, these big ones are useless, they stop spinning with any kind of effort even even just holding it gently on the paint it hardly spins, get a small proffesional one mate
would our Halford machine say dual action on it, then it would not spin as this type are design not to leave swirl marks, thus its osilates backwards and forwards with a slow rotation as not to damage you paint and leave swirls, rotary machines are a whole different ball game, just ask wobbly he'll tell you all about them, these are design to heat up the paint in the process of polishing, if you don't know what you are doing with a rotary there is a risk of damaging your paint. Personally I'd go with the meguire's dual action polisher, it's got variable speed to allow for application, cutting, polishing and buffing, a decent length of flex and a quality tool.
my hands are still vibrating 2 hours later lol
Hahahaha you must have had some luck with it though, always better than a hand job. I think Sharkey has just bought himself a Meguire's polisher, will have to see how he gets on with it.
Looks like i'll be going with the meguires DA at the minute then.
Just brought one from lidl, Made by Goodyear (tyre people) ? lol. Used it very impressed would have been better with a decent polish rather than the cheap stuff ive got atm, lead could have been longer tho :/ £24.95
When I started many moons ago the Porter Cable was the only option as a DA polisher. 110v - imported from the Septics - PITA. But it worked. Thankfully the options are wider now. These days I use a rotary because the results are faster, though the risks are higher. I believe the megs DA is a good one to start with - though I've never used a CE rated DA. My favourite pads are Lake country CCS & CG hexlogic & I tend to use Menzerna polishes. If you want me to show you how to get on then let me know. You will also need 3m tape & a strong torch to help with the process.
as said above if this is your first time with a machine i would stay well clear of a rotery, yes its quicker but also very hard to get right. to be honest unless your doing heavy compounding after wet sanding a DA is much better, less risk and a dam sight easyer to get to grips with
i agree. i didnt move on to the rotary for many years.
Incidentally if anyone in the York area has one to loan for a weekend (DA) let me know. My car currently looks §§§§e. The rust doesn't help of course lol
are you going to have a go at that rush when the weather pick's up abit?
Whats a good rotary polisher any reccomendations
The 3M is one of the best - as it maintains rpm irrespective of pressure. I have the CYC EP801 mid-range machine - works well (invest in the 3M flex backing pad). http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-polish-compounds/3m-polish/3m-perfect-it-iii-rotary-backing-plate-125mm-m14/prod_758.html
Cheers wobbly we will be needing one to go over wet sanding after spraying I did have a quick look on the bay i saw some silverline ones which were the same spec as makita, i will be getting the 3m stuff as ian who does the spraying reccomends them
I take it you use the machine to put it on, but still go by hand to get it off. Got some meguires ultimate compound, ultimate polish and tech wax to try and get it gleaming again.
I take it you use the machine to put it on, but still go by hand to get it off. Got some meguires ultimate compound, ultimate polish and tech wax to try and get it gleaming again.
Which part polishing or wet sanding?
Depends what you're trying to do. With polish - Hopefully there will be little to wipe off. Technique is key, you'll need to work the polish long enough for it to break down. There are buffing pads for use with LSPs but by that stage it is unlikely you'll need a machine. I tend to hand apply final wax.
like said above the 3M ones are the bomb and you can get a kit with the 3 pads, green, yellow, and blue, 3 liquids again green( fast cut) yellow (swirl remover) and blue (hologram remover) and 3 cloths colour coded again for each application. Euro car parts have just been round our place offering the kit for £250. the only thing you would have to add to this kit is some good wax, i use this stuff every day and its awsome. for home use i have a dodo juice which is really light and nice to use, digital RPM ajustment and a long lead. the only thing i dont like is the lack of a trigger but you get used to it. Elite car care do them for £90 i think with a couple of pads. the other ones are dewalt which all of the meguiars guys seem to use.
I mean when using the ultimate compound and ultimate polish.
Usually QD & an MF cloth is best.
as dave said use a good quality microfibre cloth, meguiars ones are good. just make sure when you wash them not to use fabric softener
are you going to have a go at that rush when the weather pick's up abit?
I am indeed, once you've finished off the rest of the how to ;-) lol
I had a go with a foam mop on an angle grinder a while ago. Worked well and was pretty quick. A squirt of water on the paint along with whatever compound/wax etc and take it easy to start with until you get a feel for it. What I did discover, which I found quite amusing, don't hit the washer jets with it as it instantly results in a shower of foam and a knackered mop :D
i know ya ill have to finish it, i need to muster up some mental energy lol
I got a silverline silver storm polisher it came today with some auto glym pro paint so will give it ago over the weekend hopefully and post resutls
I bought a Meguiars DA last week and tried it for the first time this weekend. It's pretty much idiot proof. Adjustable speed for compounding and polishing and doesn't damage the paint. Easy to use. Would definitely recommend it. First time I've ever used a machine to polish and the results were impressive. Bit more practice and it will be a piece of cake :)
C'mon Steve, you know better than that :nono: :worthless
You'll see it in the flesh next week. Will do some piccies then when I've got the 19s back on her.
At the time I started with DA polishers - the Porter cable was the only one available 110v US import PITA - but if I was to recommend one the one I'd go for is the DAS-6 PRO. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/cat_81.html
