I've not got into the proper detailing as yet, but I will be asking merc85 when I collect the gul, how I should take 'proper care' of the paintwork etc.

But i will tell you get down to asda and buy 2 or 3 drying towels at £3 each they are amazing...then you can make some pants out of your shammy! Tony.

That polish is so abrasive it's scary.
Please please please throw the colour magic and chamois in the bin. That polish is so abrasive it's scary.
Throwing it away as we speak..... It takes care of surface scratches/swirls, but that's it. What should I be using, as like I say, I've not got into major detailing yet.
Lol thats not major detailing its getting rid of the stuff that makes you need detailing! As a start you need 2 buckets 1 for shampoo 1 for rinsing, and a wash mit not a sponge 2 or 3 drying towels. A decent ph neutral shampoo, a quality polish and a decent wax..... and thats just to start with...you wait until you get in to ..What polish what shampoo what wax do i need a machine...its as straight forward as a roundabout! And ALL PERSONAL PREFERANCE as no 2 people will agree on any 1 item! Tony.

I will invest in more, and some of the other stuff, polishes etc.
Throwing it away as we speak..... It takes care of surface scratches/swirls, but that's it. What should I be using, as like I say, I've not got into major detailing yet.
Not in my experience it doesn't. I've seen it actually take lacquer off the car after numerous attempts.
Don't forget claying after shampooing if it hasn't been done before :B_thumb:
Neither have been done before as far as I know and certainly not in my ownership, so claying is a must.
Neither have been done before as far as I know and certainly not in my ownership, so claying is a must.
After you have washed and polished it, run the back of your hand over a panel, does it feel ultra smooth all over or does it feel a bit notchy in places if that makes sense?
Don't forget claying after shampooing if it hasn't been done before :B_thumb:
I was only going over the basics i would leave claying untill he has picked a good shampoo and polish...when you clay for the first time you will sh17 your self incase you are making things worse but dont worry its perfectly safe...and you will be amazed at the crap you get off of a cleaned car!
Neither have been done before as far as I know and certainly not in my ownership, so claying is a must.
mark if you dont get it done soon when the weather breaks bring it down to mine and we can do it together no forget i said that i mean i will show you the basics...but your doing all the hard stuff! Tony.
After you have washed and polished it, run the back of your hand over a panel, does it feel ultra smooth all over or does it feel a bit notchy in places if that makes sense?
After the frost has gone tomorrow, I'll try that and let you know.
about 20 miles from Edenbridge but to be honest i did not realise you was so far away from me but the offer stands if your about and can spare the time just let me know! Tony.
Cheers Tony. Yes, I'm a mere 280 miles away, but that's not much..... I really appreciate the offer anyway!
Well they both look better anyway, wish the Mrs was as dirty as that C70 :saythat:
Lol for some reason i had a mental picture of Great Harwood being in Essex sorry... but on the other hand while on your way to Edenbridge do you go anywhere near the Seven mile lane in East peckham?..if so i will give you directions to my quarry and you can pop in for a cuppa and a go in our loading shovel! Tony.
Well they both look better anyway, wish the Mrs was as dirty as that C70 :saythat:
So the wife is out tonight then Graham! Tony.

Ahhh its all as clear as mud now! Lol
Well they both look better anyway, wish the Mrs was as dirty as that C70 :saythat:
Thanks Graham. I don't know how to break it to you about your mrs, but............... Only messing.
So the wife is out tonight then Graham! Tony.
Nope, I'm just praying she's not reading this !
Hahahaha she'll box you next time she sees you Mark
box ...is that a sexual term? Tony.
Nope, I'm just praying she's not reading this !
Last Saturday night when my mrs was out, I bought the gul as you know. I was praying that she wasn't watching the posts on here, as buying another car could possibly have got me a divorce. Luckily, I seem to have got away with it......... That really is it now though, no more cars!!
box ...is that a sexual term? Tony.
Lol! Seeing as my surname is Cox, to box some Cox, could well be sexual.
I hope you got that crap off before you put a wash mit on that C70...and used the 6 bucket method :yikes: Tony.
6BM? What method is that? LMAO
