fun drive to work

My drive to work this morning was an unusual one....
I travel around 5 miles down the back lanes to work everyday, its even quite a fun little road most of the way.
This morning I overtook a old tranny van doing 20 to find myself behind a new shape EVO... Dunno which but the one with little fins on the roof.
He clocked the t5 right away ( I wasn't egging him on) but he seemed to have something to proof so I thought why not.
I think he was a bit embarrassed he couldn't shake me off, weirdly he looked like he was going hard but I was catching him up on the bends.
Hell of a buzz and quite funny for an unmapped 15 year old Volvo!

Lol, good feeling aint it :D
Me and Wally Dog had a right giggle when I dusted a ZX6R off a roundabout. Admittedly, he was too stupid to cog it down a gear or two but pulling away from a so-called superbike down a mile straight in a 10 year old 1600+ Kg Volvo with 180+k on the clock was brilliant!

Real buzz... He must have been miffed he only left me due to a move I wouldn't have pulled myself lol buzzin....
Smoking a ninja, (borris) very nice!
When I was 17 I had a tuned up rs125 that left my mates old gsx750 upto a ton...... He would come screaming past once in second though lol

I had a bit of fun the other day with a slk 200 61 reg. It beat off the line but managed to catch in 4th and overtake it in 5th, then all I could see is a slk getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror.

I've never come across a single occasion, ever, where I've had a driver want to 'race' me because they "clocked the T5 right away", nor have I had any driver trying to prove that their car is any better just because they've seen a Volvo T5. I think this is all in peoples heads!
It's more likely I've had a driver that thought, "that Volvo will hold me up, I better get past", but even though I'm driving at the speed limit they've convinced themselves I'm still driving slowly so overtake anyway.
If anyone wants to overtake me when I'm driving at the speed limit then it's up to them.... If they want to risk coming face to face with a Safety Camera Pertnership van parked around the next corner in the process, then so be it. Their licence, not mine. :finger:
Remember, it's not a case of if they get caught, but when they get caught! :cop:
Post 583743 by JamesT5 on 2013-03-13 10:27:35
And remember, once the camera van has clocked them, then slowing down will not make any difference as it take less than a second to get the speed.

I was following him, my car inst exactly some old mans estate volvo ... i think it has a slightly different presents in a rear view mirror!
I drive fast... not like a muppet but safely (as long as i can see) i had a copper chase me on the way home on the same road once, he pulled me over after about 2 miles of high speeds down the lane.... however he saw the way i was driving although fast still safe.... so when he did catch up in his v6 vectra and pulled me over even he said although it was well driven it was a bit fast and to slow down a bit as i shouldnt be doing 80, i dont think he managed to clock me either.... Ive been an IAM advanced driver for 5 years now and yeah i have altogether 15 points on my licence.....
I shall still enjoy my car and my travel to and from work!

Morning James ;)
The P2 car looks pretty inconspicuous most of the time and like you say, people will want to overtake just because of the badge. Most non-volvo drivers don't know a T5 from a bar of soap.
However, some of the members cars look a bit more "sporty" than ours and will attract the attention of boy racers. Then it's down to the temperament of the driver as to weather or not he takes up the challenge.

12 points would normally be a ban however you can plead that a ban would cause unjust misery to you and your family and just get a big fine.
There are over a thousand drivers on the roads with more than 20 points and a few with over 30!

Personally, I think if someone drives like a plonker and gets caught - then continues to drive like a plonker and keep getting caught, then a ban should mean a ban. Same goes for the wallys who hit the accelerator instead of the brake and smash into a car or shop - instant ban (there's only 2 pedals in an auto and theyre quite big so if you can't tell the difference then you shouldn't be in control of a car)
I also believe everybody should have to retake their test every 10 years.

Ive done my car twice first time with 2 minors both times....
I did hgv, bike and d1 with the army, but its not quite the same more like a CBT training then test.... same for the IAM but a lot of training before the final test. (takes a few months)
I should also say only 9 of my point are in effect and the other 6 which are the only 6 that i got for my driving (speeding by 2-3mph) are about to drop.
Post 583857 by Rudeyboy18 on 2013-03-13 18:26:19
95%of people i sit in the car now wouldnt pass their test for §§§§..... Not due to them being shocking. But missing the crutial things like checking over shoulder before pulling off, lane cutting on round abouts, CLUTCH down to often and for too long, steering faults..... I sit in on nearly every test of my pupils and the examiners look for everything. As i said 95% of people would fail miserably. Most of which within the first 50metres probably.

Indeed but also you have at least a double lesson for an instructor to take you and lend u the car for the test (unless you start your own learners policy whicih is just as expensive)
its fuuny how in your test for a normal licence you cant cut the lane... but in advanced driving your expected to check your right mirror and cut over on smaller quiet roundabouts and even use the other side of the road.
