Harly Wax: Review.

Well, a couple of months into owning a black car & I don't think I've ever cleaned or polished one of my cars so often in my life! I've been trying various cleaning product to try & get a really good shine & so far, been dissapointed at the results... untill now. Products used were Mer car Polish, various mequires polish, turtle wax & mequires Carnauba wax. All have given a sub-standard result IMO for the effort I put in, especially the mequires Carnauba wax which left a nasty oily stain randomly, & didn't last long at all. So, off to eBay I went & purchased some 100% yellow Carnauba wax, called Harly (no 'e') wax. The guy selling it was offering a 100% money back guarantee if I was not happy with the results. So, I paid £23 for a big tin of wax & 3 microfibre cloths & it came next day. He advised me to use 3M's imperial hand glaze after washing & before waxing. So, today, after washing my car, I used mequires clay & detailing spray, then applied the hand glaze, then the Harly Wax. The hand glaze was a pig to get off as I left it too long before removing it (max 30 secs - 1 minute for future ref) but the wax went on a treat, almost like grease, & buffed off really easily except for places where I put it on too thick, but still not that hard to remove. All wax was applied by hand, but removed using my £10.99 homebase buffer. Amazing machine. Best thing about the wax is that it dry's clear, so you get no white crap on the window rubbers etc. I waxed the whole car with it except the windscreen. Mother-in-law recently visited from the States and brought 2 bottles of Final Detail Instant Spray Wax which apparently is supposed to be good. I've used it a couple of times and it seems to work well. Doesn't require loads of buffing and polishing but leaves a very good finish. It repels the rain very well too.........

Johnny Woods is his name. Just type in Harly (no 'e') Wax. Tell him I sent you. Spray wax is fine as a 'top up' but not as a 1st wax I find. This stuff is paste, & spreads so far, this big tins gonna last me years! Cheers, Gwaredd.

Took me 2 hours to polish me 855 with the 'super resin polish' then 30 minutes of 'extra gold sealer' (allow to dry for 60 minutes then buff off. All autoglyms polishes apply very very easily with no elbow grease needed and buff off a piece of cake...result BLACK GLASS!!!!. nothing else comes close and ive used all the above products u mentioned with same sub standard results. Both bottles came to about £18. Rag still glides off bonnet a week later!! As for rain beading on the paint...say no more. I will never waste my money on anything else. I would say look at my pics in the Gallery but i cant seem to upload photos to it...Can anyone help me in that department?

Its just so easy to use and doesn't leave any white marks. Still haven't found anything better than Autoglym bumper care though.

Have used Autoglym before (although not on this car) & came to the conclusion that it was overpriced rubbish. Besides, I was after a Wax that would seal the shine in for the winter. Polish does not do this. To acheive that shine it took me about 4 1/2 hours from washing to waxing inc drying time. The waxing part took just 1 hour, it's that easy to go on & off. Why would I swap to autoglym if it takes you 2 1/2 hours + 1 hour drying time for the same result? BTW, the price was for wax, 3 cloths & P&P via eBay. Only a fiver more than your 2 bottles, but saved me 1 1/2 hours work + 1 hour standing around waiting. No brainer to me. My brother swears by autoglym tho, & gets some pretty good results, but I've never seen his car looking as shiney as mine! :wink:

I've been using Harly Wax for quite a while. I know Wobbly doesn't think much of it, but I don't think he's used it himself... I'll be sticking with it - I always get very positive comments when I use it, and everyone who's tried mine has subsequently bought some. :)

Problem is not so much with the shine - but the surface once polished is most susceptible to marks & finger prints. Still think Presta is better.

Tried the finger mark test earlier wobbly dave. It just fades/evoporates away in seconds leaving no trace that you touched it. Really can't fault it & the shine will only get deeper the more I wax it.

If you can, try and get hold of some Barton Chemicals Engine and Plastic Treatment found here / This stuff smells nice and goes on in really quick (spray). Only down side is that it's in 5L cans and one of these should last you about 3 years. I can do a car in 2 mins, then finish with a wipe in another 2 mins. I use it on an XC (covered in plassy bits) and an 850 (few plassy bits) and they look great after. Finish lasts for about 2 weeks to 3 weeks depending on rain and weather.
