On the end of the air inlet pipe (fixed just in front of the top right of the radiator) on my V70 T5 1999 model there is a piece of plastic held on by one screw that means the air has to go through 90 degrees before it enters the pipe. This would stop any "ram-air effect". Can this be removed and will it make any difference?? Was it to stop snow entering when in Sweden??

It is the snow scoop - designed to prevent intake of snow, surprisingly enough. Anyway I think ram air is unlikely, but you might want to remove it. I think the effects will not make that much difference.
I found this on mine at AVON a couple of months ago when the car was feeling a bit wheezy at full chat. Took it off and I swear my times improved by about 0.2 sec. However I would imagine that had more to do with the ambient air temp cooling down. Been off ever since with no probs.
Gary, This is the same bit as on my S70 at the essex meet, did you see it too? I compared it against yours which didnt have the part. It made me wonder too about it reducing the air intake vs anything foreign getting caught up, havent got round to taking it off or even thinking about it! Cheers KC

A lot of the Saab air intakes are considerably lower so suffer more from engine air starvation and lock up, bent con-rods etc. Unlike gasses water is not compressible. So be careful of Fords!:bath: .[/COLOR]
I'll probably remove the offending bit over the week-end and put it in the glove box. BTW I always look out for Fords.....normally in my rear view mirror!!!
