So this is actually for my Volkswagen, but still, i'm after some suggestions of speaker brands or car-audio retailers that you clever folk would recommend!
I'm not really au fait with how car speakers work, and how to read all the jargon. I know speakers have a Watt rating, but i'm not sure what this means. Is the higher the number, the better quality the speaker?
I'm only after four regular speakers, and maybe a small sub-woofer.
Any advice or help is really appriciated!
Cheers
Pete

if you dont mind spending the cash and want amazing quality go for some diamond audio componants up front run off the head unit the a genesis amp to run a nice quality 10 or 12" boxed sub
plenty of quality and sound clarity and also a good bit of loud too
i used to do aftermarket installs and there is nothing worse than throwing money at pap like 6x9 speakers or just loud stuffs and no quality
there are cheaper routes to the same but depends like i said if you wanna spend or not
hope that helps

I don't know if you've seen my budget ice install thread but I've added a dynaudio centre speaker to my dash and a pair of cambridge audioworks speakers to my d pillars too. They subs are on loan and to be honest, far too big and loud for my purposes. I have a smaller, single 10" sub and 400W amp on it's way.
I'm still fiddling with the setup but yeah, sounds bloody good.

I think I'm now of an age where a broad, rich sound is far more important than making passengers ears bleed lol.
I'd rather have a conversation while enjoying my music.
The kit in the C70 is pretty damn good, I can see why you wouldn't want to start tinkering with it lol.

You are too kind Martin! Subs look good too........
Recommending speakers is always subjective and depends on too many factors really to give a definitive answer. Type of music, budget to hand etc etc.
My own set up is all DLS apart from the subs which are a pair of SunAudio 8" which to me sounds very good. I like DLS primarily for their clarity and breadth of sound (mine is a 3 way set up but I am sure a 2 way will sound equally as good). I like the too for the fact that they are Swedish like the car!
I have also used Focal to good effect in a previous car but these were a little harsh on the tweeters. Good reports are regularly made about Hertz stuff and from there, its a case of digging deeper in to your wallet for stuff like Morel etc etc.
I managed to get all of my stuff from shrewd eBay buying so have a paid a fraction of the new cost but beware when buying component speakers second hand as it can be hit and miss. Just avoid buying cheaper Halfords brands like Fli, Edge and the like as you do get what you pay for!
In summary, a decent set of components up front powered off a decent amp with a sub in the back is usually more than enough. Avoid being tempted to put 6x9s in the back as these will muddy the frontal sound and may conflict with the sub.
Better still, take look over on www.talkaudio.co.uk as there is a huge wealth of wisdom and knowledge there. Thats where I lurk when not on here!
