I was well into my Vauxhalls at the very start of my driving career.....then I bought this a few years ago......has to be the worst car I have ever owned. Issues included: Dashboard and instrument panel had a life of its own Engine and ECU had a life of its own It started if it felt like it....most times I had to wack the starter motor with a brush hande to get it going :hilarious It only had 51k on the clock and was utter crap, I sold it after 3 months..... long live volvo

Can't say i'v had any and that includes motors of days long gone by. I might have been lucky as you can get a bad one including volvo like anything in life.

At the moment I would probably say the Citroen C4 coupe that we bought a few months ago. Don't get me wrong the T5 has cost me plenty over the years but the panoramic roof in the C4 cracked after a couple of months (bizarre really as it's got 95k on it with one owner from new with no problems !), Citroen aren't interested in fixing it despite admitting that it hasn't been caused by anything it has simply cracked and a new roof panel is £1850 plus vat and another 4 figure sum to fit it so basically it's a right off !

mine has got to be my old 5hitroen as well, ZX turbo diesel estate. Was actually really comfy, but 2 headgaskets in 3 months meant it had to be melted down (& learn i should of stuck with my instincts & never bought French lol) Image

Also, the front light bulbs go more quickly than the average car. On the Vectras, they have a tendency to burn oil. A guy at work I saw had a Vectra with 180,000 on the clock and he was on his second engine! I told him I was driving a Volvo with 229,000 miles on the clock and that it had the original engine that still runs almost like new. If only you could have seen his face! :shockedbi :hihi: Regards James

This is going to show my age. I can remember three cars which make me cringe A Hilman Imp. I always had trouble with the long heater pipes leaking. It smelt like a wet dog inside. Then one time I was about eighty miles from home ( that's right it could do eighty miles in one go ) the wires under the dash caught fire. A BMC Maxi 1750. It's too painful trying to remember why I hated this car but I can't tell you how many times I had the head off that one A Datsun 180 saloon. I can't think why this car was the prefered choice for the taxi drivers. The rear suspension ended in the boot due to tin worm. One car that surprised me for being ( oh so so ) was a Wolsey 2.2 straight six auto. I had to buy this after a bad bike crash when I couldn't use my left leg for about five years.

2 cars stick in my mind; Triumph Acclaim 'Triomatic' and Renault Megane Scenic. The Triumph was gutless and had no character but was reliable. The Megane was more gutless (auto) and seemed to have an unhealthy diet for coil packs. For me, a good car has character and reliability above all things. Power and toys are a bonus!

My worst cars would be a 1985 fiat regretta the doors you could do Rolf Harris impressions on and I killed the engine and parts were wrong if you could find them on the plus side the engine sounded nice and pulled quite well do to low weight and it Was the first car I had with electric windows lol, next bad car was a Renault extra van. All things considered they were jalopys when I bought them the worst good car I have owned was a 6 year old Volvo s80 t6 £7k worth of §§§§e nice engine and interior solid body, gaytronic §§§§e box and awful handling and to many computers to go wrong I went back to a manual t5 not long after. Out of 7 Volvos personally and two for the ex the worst ones have all had under 100k on the clock when I have bought apart from a certain 855r sorry Giles.

Talbot Horizon! Steering as heavy as a London Bus without PAS, no power, crap gearbox that you just had to guess whereabouts a slot was, and the damn thing melted all the electrics under the bonnet when we where in the middle of the Rhino section in Knowsley Safari Park :D Oh, and to top it all, a puppy we bought shat all over the brown velour seats at the back, and I had to drive with my head out of the window for about 25miles :D

So yes, maybe awful as a means of transport but brilliant fun whilst they worked. My worst car was probably the Triumph Sodomite 1300 - horrible to drive, ride in or look at.

My worst was a peugoet 406 hdi it was 2003 not sure on the milage as the display was Fu**d the, heater decided to work when wanted then totally packed in, it used to ice up inside rather than out it went into safe mode after you hit 70mph so it meant having to pull over for half an hour for it to sort its self out, it went through 4 coil packs and the front passenger and back floor had a puddle everytime it raind. and the real light would work 'now and again' only good thing was it was good on fuel but by far the Shi*est car i have owned!

Post 533631 by MRTREE on 2012-08-30 11:30:14

Oh and i could turn the key and take it out and the car would still be running so had to stall it every time i stopped!

Blimey your reply made me think there Liam  " I've only owned 4 cars " , I have 3 cars at the moment ( all cheap) and will have a count up later but I'm well over 20 and I mean well over. As for the worst car I ever owned , without any question of a doubt a Rover Metro. I bought it brand new for the missus when I got my first better paid job. It was the base model and in White so was the base price of 5995 at the time. That was the original ' Friday car' if you have ever heard the expression , every electrical gremlin possibly imaginable it had it. After many threats of legal action etc I did manage to back the car to them but they made it a nightmare. I had a couple of other right crappy cars but that one being brand new made it the worst car owning experience of my life. Ironically I also bought her a second hand MG Metro Turbo which was a trade in at her place of work ( a Peugeot garage ) and it was one of the most fun cars I have ever driven and totally reliable ! Cheers Mas

Just thought I'd update mine to the worst car I've ever had was actually a Citreon AX... It lasted 2weeks before the head gasket blew!!

Post 533697 by M-R-P on 2012-08-30 16:35:07

The first car I drove legally was a Nissan Note SE 1.4 with loads of add-ons. bluetooth, auto wipers and lights etc. very good on fuel BUT... The day we were due to collect it, the ECU failed, delaying the collection by a further 2 weeks ???wtf! The auto wipers didn't work on the day we collected it, nor did the auto-up on the windows. after 3 months we started hearing a clunk from the front so we had them look at it. It came back the next day with "we've tightened the subframe bolts" "were they loose?" I asked, "No, but they can come loose" ???wtf! 4 times it went in for investigation into this clunk noise and 4 times we were told "We've tightened the subframe bolts" and 4 times, I asked if the bolts were loose and 4 bloody times I got the reply "no"! The time came for it's 1st service, all well and good came back clean and shiny. Still going clonk. We went for a drive and... BANG - windscreen split! we went straight back to the stealer who told us something had hit it. It was only after some argueing that they agreed it was a stress fracture and they replaced the windscreen. Auto - up on the windows kept failing but I'd worked-out how to reset them. 18 months down the line, a new steering rack that still didn't fix the clunk, 5 yes 5 new windscreens and not to mention the car being keyed down one side, while at the stealership, resprayed and the trims subsequently falling-off several times, I had had enough. The wife was heavily pregnant, I was just about ready to kill someone if they told me that they'd tightened the effin subframe bolts one more time. We had a phone call, offering to give us a new car, and buy back the old one at a good price. So. We got ourselves a brand spankey new version, in pearl black, with more toys and gadgets (air conditioned glovebox with room for 18 cans is brilliant) 6 months on... clunk... clunk... "We've tightened the subframe bolts"... Volvo for life! And never will I EVER buy a nissan after the miserable reliability of one of their best selling cars and never will I use Westover again, after their P1$s poor efforts at customer service (although I have seen the same level of service from many of the local stealerships).

For me was a bright orange austin allegro. More areo dynamic going backwards then forwards. Sloppiest gearchange in the world, hydrolastic suspension then felt like your on a cross channel ferry in a force 9 when you hit a series of bumps. Build quality was pure 1970s british leyland and if you jacked it up in the wrong position at the back, the rear window could pop out. Oh and the dog §§§§ brown nylon velour seats that gave you a lightning bolt type electric shock when you got out the car and shut the door. Ahh memories.
