Hi All, Finally got around to taking some photos. Shes an ex plod but not in too bad a shape couple of bits missing and trim not put back right but all easily fixable and has 19 A4 pages of service history. Admittedly 80% is tyres and breaks but still, every bulb is on there. You'll have to excuse the light its was just about to tip it down and they were taken off my phone. Tidy looking car there mate :)

thank you, like I said she's in pretty good nick.... there are only 2 holes, one which looks like a puncture "wound" in the dash and one in the center console. Bodywork is OK one or 2 small dents and a couple of scratches, but you don't buy one expecting them to be mint.

Nice one, did you get it from the Ex Police Cars supplier up in Yorkshire? I know they refurb the cars before selling them on and seem to do a good job from what I can tell too. Regards James

Post 516555 by JamesT5 on 2012-06-24 22:12:06

Is this the D5 model or the T5 as the Police have a nasty habit of ripping the badges off the backs of these things when they have them, and not replacing them when they get sold (heaven knows why!). The later ones are often D5 models because the T5's were returning 17mpg (source: Gwent Police Traffic Officer I spoke to), and killing the Police budget. Regards James

Aaah, finally a look at her. she looks really nice mate. keep your eyes open for some leather as that makes a world if difference. I don't know if anybody else has noticed how much that engine looks like the R engine... oval top air pipe, cylindrical air filter... she'll respond very well to a remap, I feel... James, she's definately a T5 :)

Police forces are cutting costs by driving the slightly less powerful Diesel models now as they virtually halve the fuels costs. Why they never did this before hand with the P2's is just beyond me somehow, but there we go! Regards James

Post 516589 by M-R-P on 2012-06-24 22:45:42

the petrol P3 cars are T6, theres a lot of them round here. 310 bhp twinturbo six-pot but performance wise, they aren't much faster than the P2 and 2 tons to boot. Economy wise, not much difference between the two. I can see why they would use the D5.

Oh gosh, 6 coil packs to go wrong, I'm getting the D5! :rolleyes2

I've found one image here of it in Police livery although it's not conclusive as the VRN isn't visible but it's labelled on Flikr with your registration number. As long as the reg is right.. Sorry I've not replied sooner I'm in Corfu at the minute so :-). As for fuel consumption I managed to get 34mpg on a short run 15miles each way, but I don't imagine that the police would derive anywhere near as conservative as I did and do 90% of the time.

How did you manage that, because I drive my 2001 T5 like a Granny and I struggle to manage 25 - 26mpg. Do you think the later V70 T5 engines were 'tweaked' to give slightly better fuel economy?? Regards James

At 30-35mph in 5th with cruise on, I get 33-37 mpg avg. over 10 miles, providing I don't go uphill or stop at lights (or get pestered by a child in a noisy Saxo)

How come I'm only getting 25 (ish) to the gallon then?

Post 517102 by M-R-P on 2012-06-26 12:19:17
How come I'm only getting 25 (ish) to the gallon then?
Dunno, Get it in 5th as soon as you can, coast when you can, don't accelerate hard, My weekly agv is about 23mpg due to traffic. when I go to my mum's on sunday, (weekly thing) it's about 16 miles, mostly in 40 limits, a bit of town driving and a few hills and roundabouts, the best I've managed is 34 mpg but that was REALLY granny-ing it, holding up traffic in true Volvo style :D Since you got your missfire problem sorted James, have you disconnected the battery for a few hours? It resets the ECU and you can re-train it, usually it makes the engine smoother and more efficient.
How come I'm only getting 25 (ish) to the gallon then?
Jeeze. I seem to be getting aprox 22 around town and I live in the Malvern hills and that's just driving normally. No idea if they have been tweaked RE. Fuel econ The 34 was 6th gear and in traffic 45-50mph over aprox 15 miles Malvern and Worcester twice and into Worcester itself. But I can easily get 27 with out trying on my way too work and that's up hills and on b roads town etc. Don't forget that I've only had this a week so once I've a bit more confidence in it and gone through it to make sure it's all 100% I'm sure that it will come down. At the minute however I really can't complain. Cracking cars and I think without argument the most comfortable seats installed in any car anywhere period. I do have a picture of said event but my phone won't let me get it up, and the only reason that I took a picture is that my friend has a 2004 Nissan 350z and I continually beat him in the mpg top trumps :-)

Post 517109 by M-R-P on 2012-06-26 12:57:00

You think those seats are comfortable? You have, as I did, the most basic seats in the range (in fact, yours appear to have less levers than mine did) if/when you go for leather then you'll know comfort ;) Volvo put a huge amount of research into the design of these seats and it shows, I could drive an easy 350 miles and be fresh as a daisy when I get there with my old plod seats with their collapsed foam. My new (well, second hand) leather seats are the difference between economy and business class seats on a 747 :D

Post 517135 by JamesT5 on 2012-06-26 14:24:15

I agree about seat comfort, I've got leather in mine (it's standard fit from new), and I agree they are really comfy, muxch more comfy than the VAG seats that I experienced in the Skodas and VW's I've driven.

Having purchased mine with the leather upgrade done, it is the way to go, really nice place to sit and drive. Thats the wheels i wanna go to, with mine being a bit older the paint is not a tidy, but it is still really good bodywork wise so thats a saving grace. Really nice looking T5 though.
