Hi all, Fetched the car back to day. I'm a bit dubious about the situation of the tax i.e. weather I should be driving or not. I specifically asked weather the car was taxed because it was not displayed in the screen, his response was its showing up on the system as taxed. I was mulling through the history and paperwork that I have with the car and I have a email notifaction to someone with the application made on 17/10/2011 for a SORN. I looked over to the massive service history and they have done just over 4k in four months AFTER this SORN application was made. I've gone over on to the DVLA website and punched in the reg and its come back as unlicensed. I have a car on SORN for a kit car I'm building, and this says SORN not due not unlicensed, but underneath the info it has the prices and tax duration. Under all the bumf for the volvo it says "This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate" with no prices unlike the other reg's I have hit in. The chap who I bought it off said that all I would have to do is head over to the DVLA office swap my name and they will give me a tax disc accordingly. BUT, if I am taxed I'm going to need to have an afternoon off work to sort it out and have a back dated tax disc? If I'm not taxed I will go to the post office tax it with the little slip and send the V5 off as normal, this way it wouldn't be any different to buying any other car???? Any ideas? It's a pain as I'm off on holiday next Sunday and need and want to have it sorted by then before anything happens. Thanks

Unless the seller has proof of Tax, I'd take the DVLA website as correct. Could be worth a call to the local DVLA office for more info..

if you retax the car and it is already taxed you will recieve a full refund..........so my advice would be TAX IT its not worth taking the risk

You also need to show a tax disc in the window before it's taken on the road, if you do it online you need to wait for it to arrive even though it's registered as taxed (no 'tax applied for' notes on the back of a beermat lol)

PC plod will not pull you over as the check they do over the phone will show that you've taxed it and the automatic ANPR systems will also ignore you. Nowadays even the bobby on the street will do a check on the car before slapping you with a fine.... Just beware of new bobbies earning their stripes..
