Hi all, Long time since I was last on here but... I've finally sold my Land Rover Discovery I can now get on and sort a v70 T5 :-D. Looking at buying an x plod '57 reg. The bits I've been told to look/listen for- PCV blockage, pull out dip stick and check for smoke puffing back Clunk/knock when driving and playing with the throttle - loose hub nut Panels for similar colour Chassis legs, boot floor for signs of accident damage. Play with all the bits switches in the car brake pads and tyres Service history Along with all the usual stuff I'm sure that there are some bits that I've missed or forgotten, but is there any areas that these cars have issues with? The 2 cars in question that I'll be going to have a nose around are from this guy. I have been up there before and the chap seemed to be genuine but I don't really trust anyone nothing personal just my paranoia. Has anyone had dealings with them before PM me if preferred ? I've had a thumbs up by one person from a while ago when I first posted. http://www.xpolicecarcentre.co.uk/used-cars/volvo-v70-2-3-t5-se-5dr-brierley-hill-201217466805580 http://www.xpolicecarcentre.co.uk/used-cars/volvo-v70-2-3-t5-se-5dr-brierley-hill-201212458174995 Any way I'm off to bed, I think you all get the idea of what I'm asking. Help and advice appreciated as always Regards John P.S. I'm certain that I've come across a buyers guide on here but it seems I can't see for looking so I'm sorry for asking a question that I imagine has been asked thousands of times.

Hello again :) If this is the same company you showed me cars from previously, I think they have an ongoing error in their listings... the 2007 models are not 2319cc with 250 bhp, they are 2.4 with 260 (if I remember correctly) Anyway, that said, these are probably the most reliable P2s about and worth a punt but shop around - these guys do some domn good deals sometimes... www.expolicecar.co.uk Good luck mate :)

The ones on the links should be the 2.4 260 bhp, I think the company selling them aren't 100% on what they're selling... or the cars have had an engine swap :(

Just remember the ex-cop ones will be well worn so need some TLC. But then they are cheap - there are some great deals going on here, and quality S60's so have a good look around before you buy. Police ones often have less spec, so you may miss out on the leather, heated seats etc...

I remembered you saying about the error in his listings, he also uses eBay and has listed them on there as a 2.4 so I was going off that! I have also been getting insurance quotes and the reg comes up as a 2.4 assuming no engine swaps. The specs never really bothered me, as long as they have air con I'm not too bothered about cloth seats etc. The few I've looked at all have pritty much the same interior scuffs marks and holes For various functions but I was hoping to use that as a bargaining point. I'm a mechanic anyhow so sorting minor points isn't an issue but I've never worked on any enough to know much about faults, be it because there arnt that many about or they just don't go wrong?! Hopefully the latter. I'm assuming back on the engine size front that if there had been an engine swaP to a 2.3 that It would be changed acordingly on the v5 being the police??

The chances are it's just a typo in the listing. As for things going wrong, like I said, they are very reliable. The most expensive failure on mine (DIM) was resolved by 2004. ETM issues were sorted in 2002. There are some occurrences of window switchpacks and heater controls failing but not often. Usual service items like wishbone bushes are hard wearing but relatively cheap to sort. (I polybushed mine for 35 quid) good front disks are about 60-80 quid depending on what you get. Repairing/replacing bits damaged by plod is relatively cheap if you know the right people (I got a full leather interior - seats headlining carpets doorcards etc for £55.50).

Must agree they are value for money!! A good way to get a new(ish) T5 for peanuts!

There's a couple who get P2 cars in from time to time. I can also sourse parts for cost (depending on the part) There's also some traders here too.

ahhh good to know. I imagine, without looking, that the gearstick surround will be holed and the centre scratched, as well as bits missing. I'll come and bug you when I'm ready ;-)
