Well hi everyone after owning many cars over the years and my old vectra diesel looking a bit tired to say the least i thought i would treat myself to something i have always fancied and that is a 2001 v70 t5 model.
The only thing that slightly worries me is the fuel economy but i'll live with it.
Picked the car up yesterday and must say the only cars that i have had that compare to the comfort are my old rover 75 cdt and my Audi 2.7 bi turbo, its just soooo comfortable and nice to drive and actually makes me want to drive slow and chill lol, at the same time it has a bit of go in it which is nice.
It does have a couple of issues which i knew about before i bought it one being the tickover fluctuation which i understand is a case of cleaning the throttle body,, the next thing is the alarm service issue which i can sort, the cruise controll doesn't work :( which i would like to have but i'll see.
The worrst thing though which annoyed me which is probably down to it being owned by one man and his dog driving at 30mph lol was that driving home is was mint until after about 30 miles i gave it a serious thrash and it went into limp mode and holy §§§§ do these things go limp :( so i'm hoping this could be to do with the throttle body ?? anyway i'm also getting it remapped tomorrow to improve the fuel econemy and well obviously 300bhp will be very nice too :) any advice would be extremely gratefully recieved ...

more like 260-270bhp mate
Post 497991 by t5_monkey on 2012-05-13 17:01:56
Just remember it doesn't have 4 rings so you can be polite and give people plenty of room when you follow them :-)
not sure what's causing the limp, cruise, could be the clutch sensor perhaps ? That caused an intermittent fault on mine.
As T5 Frankie says there's a lot of *cough*§§§§§§*cough* on forums about remaps - you'll get about 20-30bhp extra, end of story!

Welcome to the forum!
As for the idle fluctuation and limp home problem, first thing to do is check all the intake pipework and vacuum hoses, there could be a leak somewhere, the ecu can be quite sensitive to things like leaks.

aah right cool so might not be the throttle body then? thats a i could find on searching :( its been fine all day and given it plenty of stick,,, mmm power is power and i know what ya mean lol, so am i right in thinking that standard these are about 240 odd bhp? i don't mean right now that i'll have 300 but with a bit of a subtle exhaust on it and air filter and a custom map it will be no problem :) also this mate of mine is an extremely good tuner and writes custom maps for many cars and although he has done many Volvo's he has never really gone to town on one so to speak so he says it will be good lol

Welcome :)
If i were you do a full stage zero service on it before remapping or it might go straight into limp again fairly easily and often :)

mmm whats the deal with that mate? obviously i want to do it right and it will have plenty of runs with live data but anything else i should need to know would be great
Post 498022 by Jamest5r on 2012-05-13 17:44:03
Bascialy a full service on steriods, you would be best to change all the rubber piping/elbows ect as they are going to be 11yrs old on your car and therefore brital and probably cracked, when you start ramping the power up these little things are gonna show.
Just search stage 0 tune on here for a full explanation lol.

The search function seems to be a little rubbish for some reason, so here is a link to the stage 0 tune up thread

Hope this helps.

I would check to see if it is flagging any codes. It is most likely the etm ( electronic throttle module ) that is at fault.
If this is the case, though like everyone else says check other things first. Then i have one for sale.

Yeah inlet off. Buy a new gasket though as when mines was changed on my own c70 they never changed gasket and had a leak for a while.
There is a actual problem with the earlier etm's they were replaced with a upgraded version. If yours has the white sticker on it, then it is the earlier one. I'm sure it white, and upgrade is got yellow sticker
Post 498412 by 1260pete on 2012-05-14 18:06:33
right well yeah this one has a white sticker on and there wasn't that much gunk in it to be honest but i gave it a serious clean and gonna put it all back together now and drive home and see what happens.
Post 498484 by 1260pete on 2012-05-14 20:18:25
right then plugged the launch in when it was all back together and the only code that came up was the clutch switch so drove the 20 miles home with a good few stops and its now purring like a kitten :) who would have thought that a tiny bit of gunk could do all that lol,,, gonna plug it in again on wednesday and make sure no more codes come back
