welcome to the club
Very nice motor mate, congratulations
All said & done - Hamish has done some work on that & left it in good health. new PCV, new brakes all round, remapped & all that.
KFC seems ecstatic!
Certainly polished enough of that colour in my time
The only decent paint shop I know of is Enterprise Accident repair in Hadley. I've seen the scratches & you'll probably need a couple of panels blowing in.
If you want help getting the paint in a better state - then I am happy to help out.

Those are the wheels I want
Those are the wheels I want
Comets :) Question is do you want C70 comets or S/V70 comets? ;)
KFC you have one beautiful looking car. At the risk of getting flamed can I suggest that you consider crystal headlights along with a decent HID upgrade and an egg crate grille. In my humble opinion it gives a fresh look that knocks years off the appearance of the car and you get lights to match the performance as well ;)

These lights
[/IMG]
from the 2003 c70. They give off a lot more light than the originals, so theres no need to have hids, unless you really want to blind people. lol
Crystals don't suit saffy's and as for hid's you can get sets that run both low and high beam
I have them on my car too click on my pics and its in there.

Dont suit them lol each to there own on that one, but I think more people would like them than those horrid black projectors ;)
After all Volvo did release them with the C70

Not on the saffys lol
I think they did you know
I think they did you know
Didn't do saffys in 2003 did they?
Im looking just now, there's a pre face lift 03 one on the trader.
i do like the projectors my self. but how much omfg. can you put hid in them?
i do like the projectors my self. but how much omfg. can you put hid in them?
Yes mate did with mine,
Comets :) Question is do you want C70 comets or S/V70 comets? ;)
I'm dumb.....didn't know there was a difference
I'm dumb.....didn't know there was a difference
Your not the only one, is it just the width of them?
Your not the only one, is it just the width of them?
yeah a whole half inch
7J vs 7.5J
So I take it I need the 7J for my V70
So I take it I need the 7J for my V70
yes mate
I think either will be fine. Yes the C70 arches are slightly bigger. You can wear slightly wider boots with them.

The crystal lights don't give out any more light it's just that by now most original light units will have faded reflectors. Replacing them with original or crystal type will make a noticeable difference in light output due to pristine reflectors. I personally think the crystals are more attractive and in keeping with the cars appearance than the projector units. Also the levelling motors are included with the crystals. They quite literally are a straight swap for the originals. As far as HID goes I did say get a decent set. I bought my kit from HIDS4U and it included H7R bulbs not the vanilla H7. The H7R have a shield which shapes the light beam and prevents glare. They are designed to fit into reflector type headlights. The H7 HID should only be fitted into projector units.
Any idea on prices of the crystal lights ans where I can get them. Ta
I bought mine from Rufe, a member on here, back in 2008. Rufe (real name Simon) works for FRF-Volvo in Swansea and offers VPCUK.ORG members a good discount. I think the headlights, indicators and grille came to around £350 but that was 4 years ago. You used to have to request a price from FRF via email but that became so long winded that they now deal with all enquiries over the phone. Ring 01792 310 999, ask for Simon or Mike and don't forget to mention this forum to get your discounted price. Just another thing to consider, ordinary halogen bulbs burn very hot and uprated halogens say 100watt even hotter. This heat is the main cause for the reflectors becoming dim and inefficient. It's even worse on our cars fitted with daylight running lights so I've switched mine off. After 4 years my crystal lights with HID bulbs which burn a lot cooler, are still like new. Cheers.
If you fit HIDs - the headlight wash system has to work to pass the MOT - either that or you have to hide the ballast.
If you fit HIDs - the headlight wash system has to work to pass the MOT - either that or you have to hide the ballast.
Hi Dave. I was a bit concerned about the first time I had my MOT after the HID install. I've used three different testing stations since I fitted them and my ballasts are in plain view in the engine bay. Nothing was mentioned and the car passed no problem. My headlamp washers do work but no one checked them. There are lots of regs concerning these lights such as the requirement for a self levelling and washing system. All each tester was concerned with was correct beam alignment. I've never been flashed by oncoming motorists whereas I'm often dazzled by many new cars including Audi's, BMW's and especially the Vauxhall Insignia's with OE projector headlights. Cheers.
So I take it I need the 7J for my V70
I've got 7.5J Comets on my V70 with 225/45 tyres and they do rub ever so slightly on the front, this hasn't damaged the tyres in nearly a year of use so... Mine's an AWD so the rear is slightly different and needed 15mm sparers to avoid catching the rear jack mounting bracket thingy bit, my car's a lot higher than yours so this set up would probably catch the rear arches
Indeed - I have good alignment & H7R bulbs in my HIDs - I don't get flashed at. I still think I will need to fix the wash system though - at least that's what Billy said at HLM.
Crystals don't suit saffy's and as for hid's you can get sets that run both low and high beam
What's the point in running hid's in the main beam? You don't use main beam much, usually just to flash someone and hid's take a few seconds to warm up so not much point imo as you'd turn them off before they warmed up.
Only happens on the first time of turning them on - after that they're as good as gold.
