Nebulas came apart!!!

I've just had a set of 18" Nebulas sandblasted and powder-coated in anthracite. They look really good - even better on the car. Had new tyres fitted and all set up on the car this afternoon. Drove down the road and a knocking sound started on the nearside. It turns out that the bolts holding the rims together had all come loose! I can only think that the sandblasting has somehow loosened the bolts. Had the wheels swapped back again. Bought some Loctite thread sealer. Thinking I'll just tighten them all up again. What torque should I use? I'm thinking less than 20Nm2 Any ideas? All a bit bizarre.

Think Wobbly Dave asked/had the answer to this question. I'll try and find it.

surely when they refurbed the rims they took them apart...??, theyre split rims so refurbing them without splitting them is only half a job is it not..??? & if they did split them the blame lies with them..... surely!!

My split rims were fake.

They're real split rims. Supposedly off a 2005 T5. Off ebay. They were all buckled, one was a bit bent and all kerbed to ****. MSS in Leeds sorted most of it out. They gave me the option to split them myself and they would do them in the 2 parts, or do them together. I was going to split them, then I didn't. I've used MSS before and they did a great job on normal alloys. And they do look good. Will post some pics soon. Don't have time today. Round trip to Liverpool. I'm glad they came loose before I hit the M62!!

ah......... im looking to get my nebula's refurbed in that graphite effect, just finding the right place.. how much did they charge out of curiosity...??

Nebulars from volvo are not split rims. They are a one piece rim and a hub.

[quote=dtp;490281]Nebulars from volvo are not split rims. £45 each. Stripped to bare metal, and powder-coated.

Nebulas are 'cosmetic split rims'. I had no trouble splitting mine when I refurbed them myself. Thought I would have a mare as the Yanks posts on swedespeed said it wasn't easy. One of my proper torx bits fitted spot on and they all came out easily, my guess is the Yanks don't have metric torx bits?? I used loctite when I put them back in and allowed a few days for it to go off before I had tyres fitted. Still spot on a few years down the line.

I had the same with some Jap Enkei's. The rim is one piece, And the center (hub) is another. :)
