When I grip the front road wheel and push back and forth a slight knock is heard, not noticeable when driving, the knocking seems to be from the top mount.
Its not bad or loud but obvious. Is this a possible cause of my minor wheel wobble and is it easy to sort out?
In the past I've always bought a salvage strut complete for ease of replacement (and cost)
Any sensible comments please.
Mike

Check to see if it's the rubber top mount by gripping the wheel and rock it back and forth whilst looking at the main mounting bolt in the centre of the strut top, if it moves it's probably the rubber mounting, the hole tends to elongate through time and the strut moves around in the hole.Just done these on my car, fairly easy if you have the right tools i.e spring compressors, if you don't then its a garage job.Think they were around £25 each from Volvo.

i have just had both of these rubber mountings replaced . payed about 57 pounds for the pair from volvo and about 80 pounds for the fitting. incidently i still have a rattling from the front suspension but have no play in the steering or wheels, any clues ?

Suspension rattling, is it anything else in front that's loose (Anti-roll bar for example) worth getting under the car with a torch.
As for the topmonts they are easy to replace if you have spring compressors and some space to work and definately worth doing. The topmounts spread the load into the body and damp out some of the road inputs. If they are not working you will have vibrations, poor wheel alignment and long term strutt tower failures as the stresses are not being distributed evenly. This is obviously v-bad but takes v-long time to happen.
