Hi Guys I need someones help :) My T4 is going through Turbo's like anything at the moment. Inside the turbo housing it is cracking. I do not know why? Looking into it on my car there are 2 types of turbo, a Garret and a Mitsibushi one. I believe I have only had the Garret one on the car so far. I have only ever seen the Garret one.... Does anyone know or heard of the same issue on a S40 T4? 1999 S40 T4 SE Custom Front Mounted Intercooler Cold air Induction Forge Dump valve ECU Re map (2008) This has only become a problem over the last year.... The car has done 206k and still drives well but with little or no Boost. Turbo spins, dump valve has pressure but no boost. Any idea's? Are there any companies that may be able to help? All ideas and help much appreciated Slomo

Other than that could it be possible the remap is too aggressive? Are they refurbs?

Dump valve only went on the car this weekend :) I ahve also fitted a boost gauge to see what the car was running. Up to 4k it is on 9psi after that it is moving between 15-20psi continuosly??

remap was done many years ago and I ahve had great fun with it since. Nothing has change mechanically on the car that I did. I just noticed a loss in power. The turbo seals had gone and a crack inside the turbo. replaced it and still the same. It was a recon turbo. Keep the ideas coming please. all help and comments much appreciated :) Slomo

Never heard of a T4 running a Garrett turbo from the factory. They only ever used the TD04-14T with the only difference being the P1.5 and P2 cars with the larger cc engine used the twin scroll one to improve spool up time. The only S40 with a Garrett afaik was the diesel. Might be the problem and why you are lunching turbos as the diesel on is pretty small blower meant for low rpm boost. Find yourself a 14T and fit that then problem should be solved. With a remap you should be running 1.2bar/17.4psi and it should hit this from spool up which with a 14t in good nick will be from 2.5k rpm or thereabout.

sounds like boost cut too me, the ECU is cutting the boost back to 15psi. this could be down to a vacume leak, weak actuator or the plate where the recirculation valve was located is leaking. What was the remap psi set at?

My 19t will be going on w/c 15/8/11 - a hybrid TD04 unit. My old one will be available after that if you are interested? Currently runs 1.2bar and no issues or smoke Cheers

As has been said, the t4s all came with the mitsi td04-14t. If you have got one from the diesel, what with the map its got on i'd imagine it would be getting a lot hotter than it was designed for.

I have checked and I have got the correct turbo on :) phew lol But looking into it further, the turbo's seem to be ok but it is the housing that bolts onto the rest of the engine that is cracked? I looked at my previous turbo's and they are cracked in the same place. :(

*Update* car is now running far better than it has for ages which is good :) Boost is back in the low ranges but as soon as the car hits 4.5k on acceleration the boost drops off to very little if nothing.... Any ideas.. Very confused at that but the car is running very well :) just that it has lost its mid to top end :( Slomo

Sounds like the wastgate is opening early, have you checked the preload on the actuator? might need tightening a bit.

Do you have an mbc fitted? and are there any fault codes?
